Shipco Transport Inc., a leading international cargo transportation company, has an immediate opening at our HAF branch located in Houston, TX for an experienced Airfreight Manager.
We are looking for a candidate who is pro-active, dynamic, highly motivated, reliable and who understands and appreciates the importance of a team effort. The candidate should also possess the ability to 'think outside the box', and think and work outside their local market, and be aware of various time zones and regional norms for all parties involved.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and oversee the daily operations of the Air Import and Export departments, ensuring compliance with company procedures and service standards.
  • Supervise, coach, and develop team members while managing workloads, productivity, and performance to meet operational goals.
  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of airfreight shipments, including bookings, documentation, customs compliance, and carrier coordination.
  • Monitor shipment progress, resolve operational issues, and proactively communicate with customers, overseas agents, airlines, and internal stakeholders.
  • Maintain operational accuracy by ensuring timely billing, cost control, data integrity, and compliance with IATA, TSA, U.S. Customs, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare monthly operational and financial performance reports for Shipco Corporate Management and lead the annual budgeting and forecasting process for the branch.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of airfreight forwarding experience, including supervisory or management responsibility within Air Import, Air Export, or both.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, coach, and develop high-performing teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of international airfreight operations, including import, export, documentation, customs procedures, and shipment lifecycle management.
  • Solid understanding of IATA regulations, TSA security requirements, U.S. Customs regulations, Incoterms, and hazardous materials handling.
  • Experience coordinating with airlines, ground handling agents, trucking companies, customs brokers, and overseas offices.
  • Strong knowledge of air carrier services, routings, transit times, and truck transportation, including LTL and airport recovery procedures.
  • Proficient in preparing and reviewing air waybills, customs documentation, commercial invoices, and other shipping documents.
  • Ability to manage shipments from origin through final delivery while independently resolving operational challenges and making sound business decisions.
  • Strong financial awareness with experience reviewing freight costs, vendor charges, customer billing, and operational profitability.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to build strong relationships with customers, carriers, vendors, and internal teams.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to prioritize multiple tasks while meeting deadlines in a high-volume environment.
  • Experience with transportation management systems (TMS), freight forwarding software, and Microsoft Office applications, including Excel.
  • Commercial awareness and business development experience are considered a plus.
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or a related field is preferred, but equivalent industry experience will be considered.
  • IATA Dangerous Goods, Customs Brokerage, or other industry certifications are considered an advantage.
