Responsibilities

Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) administer anesthesia and anesthesia-related care as integral members of the anesthesia care team. Their responsibilities include conducting pre-anesthetic evaluations, managing anesthesia induction, maintenance, and emergence, and providing post-anesthesia care and follow-up. They also offer peri-anesthetic support throughout the surgical process. Additionally, CRNAs may act as Surgical Process Improvement facilitators as needed.

In this role, CRNAs may be required to function as lead CRNAs, coordinating breaks and mealtimes, acting as clinical resources for students and residents, and assisting senior residents with emergency case coverage.

This posting is also open to current benefit-eligible Mayo Clinic CRNAs who are interested in transitioning to a non-benefit, supplemental CRNA position. The hiring process will follow the guidelines outlined on the internal Mayo Clinic CRNA homepage.

  • Only one staff CRNA can switch to a supplemental position per quarter.
  • The deadline for requesting to transition to a supplemental position aligns with the call schedule deadline date for that quarter.
  • If more than one CRNA requests to transition, approval will be based on departmental seniority.
  • The start date must be at the beginning of the pay period, at the end of the quarterly schedule. The start date will be based on whichever date, at the end of the quarter, has the least interruption to the practice.

Qualifications

This position requires a registered nurse who has completed a formal program in nurse anesthesia. The anesthetist must pass the national certifying examination for nurse anesthetists within six months of graduation. Within six months, if the certifying exam is not passed, the candidate cannot be credentialed to practice. Recent experience or training in regional anesthesia is required for those community CRNAS working in practices where CRNAs are privileged to perform regional techniques for primary anesthesia or postoperative pain management.Valid Minnesota registered nurse licensure. AANA certification. Credentialed by Allied Health Practitioner Credentialing Subcommittee. As of January 1, 2015 a current MN Advanced Practice Registered Nurse license.
