Job description

Northwestern Mutual Capital (NMC) is a committed investor in the private credit (senior & mezzanine) and equity co-investment (common & structured) markets and a leading player in the investment grade privately placed debt market. Collectively, the team manages ~$65B of AUM. NMC manages capital primarily for The Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company, a highly rated life insurance company with a 165+ year legacy. The stability of our capital base has led private equity firms and corporations around the world to rely on NMC for strategic funding to support leveraged transactions and capital investments.

Principals are responsible for the analysis, evaluations, and execution of private equity and debt investment opportunities originated by NM Capital. You'll develop investment theses, conduct industry and business due diligence, review financial models and valuations, structure investment securities, and more. Principals are also responsible for monitoring and optimizing investments in the NM Capital portfolio and have opportunity for upward mobility.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Analyze, evaluate, and execute private equity and private credit investments.

  • Develop investment theses.

  • Perform detailed financial analysis and modeling.

  • Author investment memos and lead investment committee discussions.

  • Cultivate relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including senior level executives, legal counsels, investment bankers, and private equity sponsors.

  • Actively monitor and optimize portfolio performance.

  • Operate in a team environment and mentor junior investment professionals.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of five years of experience in investment banking, private equity, equity research, or other related industries.

  • A broad knowledge of investments, an understanding of economic forces affecting a wide range of industries, proficiency in accounting, and strong computer modeling skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills including written / oral communication and relationship building.
