Printing Prepress information

What is a printing prepress?

A Printing Prepress job involves preparing digital files and materials for the printing process. This includes tasks such as formatting, color correction, proofreading, and creating printing plates or digital proofs. Prepress technicians work with design software and printing equipment to ensure the final product meets quality standards. They collaborate with designers, clients, and press operators to troubleshoot potential issues before production. Accuracy and attention to detail are essential in this role to avoid costly errors.

What skills and qualifications are needed for printing prepress?

To thrive as a Printing Prepress professional, you need proficiency in graphic design, color theory, and an understanding of print production processes, often supported by a degree or certification in graphic arts or a related field. Familiarity with industry-standard software like Adobe Creative Suite, QuarkXPress, and prepress workflow systems is essential. Attention to detail, effective communication, and problem-solving skills are valuable soft skills in this role. These competencies ensure that print projects are accurately prepared, meet quality standards, and progress smoothly from conception to final production.

What are common challenges in printing prepress, and how are they addressed?

Professionals in Printing Prepress often encounter challenges such as managing tight deadlines, ensuring color accuracy across different devices and media, and resolving file compatibility issues. Team members routinely collaborate with designers, print operators, and clients to clarify specifications and troubleshoot technical problems. Staying organized and detail-oriented helps prevent costly mistakes and reprints, while ongoing training in new software and print technologies keeps you adaptable. A proactive approach to communication and problem-solving ensures projects stay on track and meet client expectations.

About the Company

Fanatics Collectibles is a new company operating at the intersection of collectibles, culture, and technology. Backed by world-class investors, operators, and sports & entertainment partners, we are building the global leader in next-generation collectibles. As part of the broader Fanatics ecosystem, we leverage a digital sports platform that spans over 900 sports properties and engages more than 81 million fans. Together, we are reimagining every part of the collectibles experience for fans, partners, and creators.

About the Role

The Prepress Engineering Project Specialist is a key role within the Prepress Engineering team, supporting the creation and delivery of trading card products across Fanatics Collectibles' expanding portfolio of licensed brands. This role combines technical understanding of prepress and engineering workflows with strong scheduling, coordination, and administrative support.

Acting as the central point of communication, the Project Specialist connects Art, Prepress Engineering, Project Management, Mastering, and Project Coordinator teams to ensure card projects move smoothly from concept through final, print-ready delivery.

What You'll Do

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned trading card projects within the Prepress Engineering and Mastering workflows
  • Coordinate schedules, priorities, and handoffs between Art, Engineering, Project Management, and Mastering (Prepress) teams
  • Support engineers by managing project tracking, timelines, and administrative tasks
  • Maintain clear, accurate project documentation including schedules, status updates, and change tracking
  • Communicate project requirements, updates, and issues across cross-functional partners
  • Assist with intake and organization of new card projects, including expanding licensed products
  • Help ensure engineering and prepress requirements are clearly understood and met before files move to mastering
  • Identify gaps, risks, or blockers and escalate appropriately
  • Support continuous improvement of workflows, tools, and documentation within PPE

What You Bring

  • Working knowledge of engineering, prepress, print production, or technical graphics workflows
  • Strong organizational and scheduling skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects at once
  • Comfort handling administrative and coordination tasks that keep teams moving efficiently
  • Clear, professional communication skills - written and verbal
  • Ability to work across creative and technical teams and translate needs between them
  • High attention to detail and follow-through

Nice to Have

  • Experience supporting trading card, print, packaging, or similar production environments
  • Familiarity with prepress engineering, mastering, or print specifications
  • Experience working in licensed or compliance-driven product environments
  • Exposure to project management tools or production tracking systems

Role Scope & Intent (Internal Alignment)

  • Individual contributor role
  • Not a people manager
  • Owns coordination, communication, and project support rather than strategic project ownership
  • Acts as the connective tissue across Art, Engineering, PM, Mastering, and PCs
