Job description

Position Summary

Vitus Energy / Alaska Fuel Holdings is seeking an IT Support Specialist I to provide day-to-day technical support for employees, offices, remote Alaska locations, and company vessels.This is an entry-level to early-career position working under the direction of the Systems Manager. The successful candidate will serve as the first point of contact for common IT problems, prepare and deploy computers and mobile devices, maintain accurate equipment and support records, and assist with the operation of the company's Microsoft Office 365, network, communications, and business systems.

This position is ideal for someone with strong troubleshooting skills who wants hands-on experience across a broad IT environment. Training and guidance will be provided for company-specific systems.

Primary Responsibilities

User Support

  • Respond to and document employee support requests through the company's ManageEngine ServiceDesk system.
  • Troubleshoot Windows, Microsoft 365, Outlook, Teams, printers, scanners, shared drives, and common application issues.
  • Escalate server, network, security, and business-critical issues when appropriate.

Computer and Account Administration

  • Configure, deploy, replace, and retire Windows workstations and laptops.
  • Install approved software, Windows updates, drivers, and security tools.
  • Assist with Microsoft 365, Active Directory, email, shared mailbox, distribution group, and user account administration.

Network and Infrastructure Support

  • Perform basic troubleshooting of wired and wireless networks, switches, access points, internet connections, and cabling.
  • Assist with Sophos firewall, Peplink router, Starlink, VPN, and remote-site connectivity issues under the direction of the Systems Administrator.
  • Document network connections, device assignments, equipment locations, and configuration changes.

Business Systems Support

  • Provide basic support for QuickBooks Enterprise, Remote Desktop, Dropbox, Adobe Acrobat, and other approved business applications.
  • Assist users with access to file shares and company data while following established security-group and permission procedures.
  • Provide basic troubleshooting and escalation support for fuel-site, point-of-sale, payment-terminal, and communications systems.

Security and Documentation

  • Follow company cybersecurity, acceptable-use, access-control, and data-protection policies.
  • Help identify phishing messages, suspicious activity, malware warnings, and unauthorized software.
  • Assist with endpoint-security alerts, software updates, password resets, and account-access issues..

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least one to three years of technical-support, help-desk, computer-repair, or related experience; relevant education or certifications may substitute for experience.
  • Working knowledge of Windows 11 and Microsoft 365 applications.
  • Basic understanding of computer hardware, printers, networking, Wi-Fi, IP addressing, and user accounts.
  • Strong customer-service and communication skills.
  • Ability to lift and carry computers, UPS units, monitors, and other equipment weighing up to approximately 50 pounds.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel locally between company facilities.
  • Ability to pass any employment, security, or background screening required for access to company systems and facilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate Degree or above in an IT related field.
  • CompTIA A+, Network+, Microsoft, or similar entry-level certification.
  • Experience with Active Directory, Microsoft 365 administration, Group Policy, or Entra ID.
  • Experience with ManageEngine ServiceDesk or another ticketing and endpoint-management platform.

Work Environment

This is primarily an on-site position based in Anchorage, Alaska. Work includes office-based support, equipment staging, and occasional visits to warehouses, fuel facilities, docks, or vessels. Some troubleshooting may involve noisy, cold, outdoor, industrial, or confined work areas.

Occasional after-hours, and weekend, assistance may be required for urgent operational issues, planned maintenance, employee onboarding, or equipment replacement. Travel to remote Alaska locations may occasionally be available or required depending on operational needs and the employee's experience.

Career Development

This position is intended to develop into an IT Support Specialist II, Network Support Specialist, or Junior Systems Administrator role as the employee gains experience with the company's infrastructure and demonstrates the ability to manage more advanced assignments independently.
