GW IT's Student Computing and Teaching Lab team provides technical assistance and information on classroom and lab computers across all campuses and centers of the university. We also support student printing and 3D printing services.
A Student Technical Support Assistant I in the SCTL team gains skills and knowledge of technical support, ticketing systems, and inventory management. Employees also gain knowledge of IT systems and audiovisual tools.
GW IT provides flexible scheduling opportunities for students. Student Technical Support Assistant I is a part-time role, generally 10-20 hours per week.
Hours of operation for this position will be within Monday - Friday: 8:00a - 6:00p with occasional weekends as needed.
Position Specific Summary
Duties for the Student Lab Assistant I role include:
- Providing basic technical and computer support assistance to students in computer labs.
- Maintaining inventory records of classrooms, labs, and devices deployed across campus.
- Performing basic computer cleaning and maintenance to ensure that technology is functional and available for use including both student print kiosks and 3D printers.
- Special projects or other duties may be assigned related to specific departmental needs.
Standard Position Description
The student will monitor and assist other students and provide basic maintenance. Tasks may include: ensuring the computer room/lab is accessible, checking in/out lab equipment, assisting students with technical problems, and performing basic computer and printer maintenance. Special projects or other duties may be assigned related to specific office needs.

Required Qualifications
This is an entry level position, little to no experience required, all training will be provided.

- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to read and follow technical support documentation.
- Ability to learn and follow support processes and procedures.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
- Good attention to detail in record keeping.
- Knowledge of 3D printing processes and materials
