The Senior Principal Structural Engineer provides technical leadership and structural engineering expertise on large and mega-scale EPC projects. This role serves as a senior discipline authority responsible for delivering safe, high-quality, and cost-effective structural engineering solutions while ensuring compliance with client, regulatory, and Worley requirements.
The position acts as a Structural Engineering Lead on assigned projects, providing oversight of engineering execution, supporting business development activities, mentoring engineering personnel, and promoting effective collaboration across multidisciplinary project teams.
Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage structural engineering activities throughout all phases of project execution.
  • Serve as the Civil/Structural Engineering Lead on assigned projects.
  • Ensure structural engineering deliverables are completed safely, accurately, on schedule, and within budget.
  • Develop and manage project scope, ensuring changes are appropriately addressed through established project change management processes.
  • Participate in project meetings, technical reviews, progress reporting, and interdisciplinary coordination activities.
  • Review and approve structural engineering deliverables in accordance with applicable quality requirements.
  • Provide technical support during procurement, construction, and commissioning activities, including:
  • Technical specifications and requisitions.
  • Technical bid evaluations and vendor document reviews
  • Purchase order support and contractor inquiries.
  • Proactively identify and resolve technical issues, project risks, and discrepancies between client requirements and engineering deliverables.
  • Promote and support global integrated delivery (GID) and workshare execution strategies where appropriate.
  • Communicate effectively with project stakeholders, including clients, project management teams, contractors, and other engineering disciplines.
  • Support proposal development activities, including man-hour estimating, scope development, and technical reviews.
  • Mentor and develop engineers and designers within the structural engineering discipline.
  • Maintain awareness of industry developments, emerging technologies, and evolving engineering standards.

Leadership Responsibilities
When assigned responsibility for a project team, the Senior Principal Structural Engineer will:
  • Develop staffing plans and workshare strategies.
  • Assign work and monitor team performance and progress.
  • Provide technical direction, coaching, and mentoring.
  • Ensure compliance with Worley procedures, client requirements, and applicable codes and standards.
  • Foster a culture of quality, safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Technical and Industry Experience
  • Structural engineering experience supporting onshore industrial projects.
  • Extensive experience in the petrochemical, refining, LNG, chemical, energy, or related industries.
  • Demonstrated experience leading structural engineering teams on multidisciplinary EPC projects.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience executing projects within an EPC environment.
  • Extensive experience in the analysis and design of structural steel and reinforced concrete systems commonly found in industrial facilities
  • Strong knowledge of structural systems including:
    • Buildings
    • Pipe racks
    • Equipment foundations
    • Platforms and access structures
    • Miscellaneous steel structures
  • Thorough understanding of applicable industry codes and standards, including ASCE, AISC, ACI, IBC, OSHA, and client-specific design requirements.
  • Experience supporting procurement, construction, commissioning, and field engineering activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify technical risks and develop practical, cost-effective engineering solutions.
  • Experience working within global execution and workshare environments is preferred.

Education - Qualifications, Accreditation, Training
Required
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering with a Structural Engineering emphasis from an accredited institution.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in at least one U.S. state.
  • Strong proficiency with structural analysis and design software.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating within multidisciplinary teams.

Preferred
  • Master's Degree in Structural Engineering.
  • Multiple state PE registrations.
  • Experience serving as Structural Lead on large or mega projects.
  • Experience supporting global integrated delivery (GID) and workshare execution models.
  • Experience with advanced structural analysis software and complex industrial structures.
  • Prior experience mentoring and developing engineering teams.
