POSITION OVERVIEW
The Fuel Pricing Manager is responsible for developing, executing, and optimizing fuel pricing strategies to maximize margin, maintain competitiveness, and drive overall profitability across retail locations. This role analyzes market trends, wholesale costs, competitor pricing, taxes, and demand patterns to make data-driven pricing decisions in a fast-paced environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop and implement daily fuel pricing strategies across assigned markets
  • Monitor wholesale rack prices, futures markets, transportation costs, and taxes
  • Analyze competitor pricing and market positioning
  • Optimize margin while maintaining volume and market share targets
  • Manage price zone strategies and store clustering models
  • Evaluate promotional pricing, loyalty programs, and discount strategies
  • Forecast fuel margin performance and provide weekly/monthly reporting
  • Partner with operations, finance, and marketing teams to align pricing strategy
  • Maintain compliance with local, state, and federal fuel pricing regulations
  • Monitor fuel inventory levels and coordinate with supply/logistics teams
  • Gather and analyze customer and competitive intelligence, including pricing and brand value benchmarking
  • Identify pricing anomalies, risk exposure, and margin leakage
  • Develop dashboards and analytics tools (Power BI, Excel, etc.) to track Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • CPG (Cents Per Gallon) margin
  • Gross profit dollars
  • Volume performance vs. market

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business, Supply Chain, or related field
  • 3-7+ years direct experience in fuel pricing, commodities, retail pricing, or related analytical role
  • Advanced Excel skills; experience with BI tools (Power BI, Tableau, and related software applications)
  • Proven track record of driving business performance
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a high-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
  • Ability to interpret commodity markets and pricing trends
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills
  • Ability to work under time-sensitive conditions
  • Ability to occasionally work varied shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays
  • Ability to perform various pricing tasks independently
  • Excellent written and verbal skills to communicate effectively with Team Members, management, other departments and external resources. Ability to organize, summarize and succinctly communicate the relevancy of findings to management.
  • Self-motivated, well-organized, ability to prioritize and efficiently perform multiple tasks in a timely manner. Ability to work independently and in small groups without direct supervision.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Strong understanding of fuel supply chain and rack pricing
  • Experience in convenience retail or multi-site fuel operations
  • Knowledge of fuel tax structures (federal/state/local)
  • Familiarity with OPIS or other fuel pricing data services
  • Experience managing pricing zones across multiple markets
