Description
The Department of Facilities and Construction Management at Jackson State University is accepting applications for its Preventative Maintenance Tech position.
Examples of Duties
  • This is an entry level position in a mechanical and safety support role. Perform basic preventive maintenance to facilities and building systems and assist technician(s) with completing repairs or upgrades.
  • Ensure that equipment used in maintenance is kept clean and in proper working condition.
  • Ability to operate tools, machines, and other equipment.
  • Compliance with local building codes, and health and safety regulations.
  • Utilize handheld devices and asset management system mobile apps to create and close work orders with appropriate data (labor hours, downtime, problem/cause/remedy, and parts used).
  • Follow appropriate safety procedures and use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while maintaining equipment (Lock Out/Tag Out, Arc Flash, etc.), and ensure a safe work environment by eliminating potential equipment safety hazards.
  • Other jobs assigned.

Typical Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must have a valid Mississippi Driver's License.
  • One to two years of experience in facility maintenance (especially in mechanical trades such as IIVAC, plumbing, electrical, and/or safety) preferred, but not required.
  • Ability to bend, stand, stoop, crawl, or smell and access small areas as needed.
  • Ability to lilt minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Ability to climb ladders, scaffolds, and work at heights greater than 20 feet.
  • Ability to work in outdoor conditions throughout the year.
  • Good analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent customer service skills with desire to exceed customer expectations.
