What is a president director?

A President Director is the highest-ranking executive in a company, often responsible for overseeing the overall operations, strategy, and performance of the organization. This role combines the responsibilities of both a president and a managing director, providing leadership to the executive team and representing the company to stakeholders. The President Director sets long-term goals, ensures the company complies with regulations, and makes major corporate decisions. They report to the board of directors and play a critical role in shaping the company's vision and direction.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a president director?

To thrive as a President Director, you need extensive leadership experience, strategic vision, and a strong background in business management, often supported by an advanced degree such as an MBA. Familiarity with corporate governance, financial analysis tools, and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems is typically required. Outstanding communication, decision-making, and stakeholder management skills set exceptional leaders apart in this role. These competencies are crucial for effectively steering organizational growth, managing risks, and ensuring long-term business success.

What are some common challenges faced by a president director when aligning the leadership team with company strategy?

A President Director often encounters the challenge of uniting diverse leaders with varying perspectives and departmental priorities around a single, cohesive company strategy. Regular strategy meetings, clear performance metrics, and fostering a culture of collaboration can help ensure alignment. Successfully navigating these challenges not only drives company performance but also builds trust and accountability within the executive team.

Job description

Solx is building the next generation of intelligent manufacturing. Our factory floor is where advanced hardware meets advanced software — and where AI at the edge directly drives yield, throughput, quality, and uptime. We are investing in the systems, infrastructure, and talent to make our operations the most intelligent in the industry.

About the Role

Deliver the projects that build Solx's next generation of manufacturing capacity. As part of the owner's project team on a multi-year capital expansion program in Puerto Rico, you'll own assigned projects and work packages end to end — from design development through site work, construction, equipment installation, commissioning, and handover to operations.

This is a hands-on, field-facing role. You'll act as the owner's representative to the EPC/EPCM contractors, A&E firms, and equipment OEMs who execute the work, and you'll be accountable for what actually gets built: on scope, on budget, on schedule, and safely. You will report directly to the VP, Capital Projects.

Core Responsibilities
  • Own scope, schedule, budget, and risk for assigned projects and work packages from design through commissioning and turnover to operations.
  • Serve as the owner's representative to EPC/EPCM contractors, A&E firms, and equipment OEMs; run the day-to-day contractual and technical interfaces.
  • Drive design development and constructability reviews, and resolve interface conflicts between facility design and process-equipment requirements.
  • Manage procurement, expediting, and logistics of long-lead equipment and materials — including port, customs, and island freight considerations.
  • Direct field execution: mobilization, work sequencing, permits to work, inspections, quality holds, punchlist, and turnover packages.
  • Own construction safety on assigned scopes; hold contractors to their EHS programs and exercise stop-work authority without hesitation.
  • Run project-level change control — identify trends early, evaluate and document changes, and route them through the program's change process.
  • Coordinate equipment installation, hook-up, commissioning, and qualification with process technology, operations, and OEM field service.
  • Maintain complete project records: contracts, RFIs, submittals, correspondence, as-builts, and turnover documentation.
  • Interface with permitting authorities, utilities, and inspection agencies to keep approvals ahead of the schedule.
  • Report status, risk, and forecast to the VP, Capital Projects on a fixed cadence, with the detail behind every number available on request.
What You'll Work On

The scope of this role spans the full project lifecycle, including: design coordination, contractor and OEM management, procurement and logistics, field construction, commissioning support, and turnover to operations.

  • Take a defined package from design freeze through mechanical completion and turnover to operations.
  • Establish the owner-side execution routines — kickoff standards, coordination cadence, field reporting, turnover requirements — that every subsequent project will reuse.
  • Sequence equipment deliveries against real island logistics constraints so long-lead items arrive when the building is ready to receive them.
  • Own the seam between construction completion and commissioning, so operations inherits a facility that starts clean.
  • Hold contractors to the contract on progress, quality, and safety — and head off claims before they become disputes.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or a closely related discipline — or equivalent hands‑on project management experience.
  • 8+ years managing capital construction projects, including at least one industrial or advanced‑manufacturing facility carried from design through commissioning.
  • Owner's-side or EPC/EPCM project management experience on projects of $50M or greater.
  • Demonstrated command of contract administration, change control, RFIs and submittals, and turnover documentation.
  • Hands‑on field construction management experience; comfortable leading in an active, multi‑contractor construction environment.
  • Working knowledge of construction safety programs and permit‑to‑work systems.
  • Proficiency with project scheduling and construction management tools (e.g., Primavera P6 or MS Project; Procore or equivalent).
  • Strong written and verbal communication — you can brief an executive and a foreman on the same day and be equally clear.
  • Willingness to be based on‑site in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico for the duration of the build.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish a plus.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience building semiconductor fabs, advanced electronics or display fabs, battery/BESS gigafactories, or comparable cleanroom or advanced‑manufacturing facilities.
  • Direct experience managing equipment installation, hook‑up, commissioning, and qualification with process OEMs.
  • Project delivery in Puerto Rico, the Caribbean, or other island or logistics‑constrained environments, including Jones Act considerations.
  • Familiarity with U.S. clean‑energy manufacturing incentives (Section 45X, 48C) and domestic‑content requirements.
  • Experience helping stand up project‑execution processes at a scaling manufacturer.
  • Working knowledge of the facility and process‑utility systems advanced manufacturing requires — power, water, HVAC, compressed air, and environmental systems.
Essential Functions & Physical Requirements

This is an onsite role based at an active construction site and manufacturing facility. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The role typically requires the ability to:

  • Walk and stand on active construction sites and production floors for extended periods.
  • Climb ladders and stairs and access elevated work areas, excavations, and confined spaces as required for inspection.
  • Lift and carry materials, tooling, or equipment, typically up to approximately 25 lbs.
  • Bend, kneel, and reach to inspect work in progress and installed equipment.
  • Work outdoors and in an active construction environment, including exposure to noise, dust, moving equipment, heat, and humidity.
  • Use standard personal protective equipment (PPE) as required on site.
Reasonable Accommodation

Solx provides reasonable accommodations to applicants with disabilities. If you need an accommodation during the application or interview process, contact careers@buildsolx.ai.

Solx is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or veteran status.
