Job Description
Basic Purpose
Provides Utility Design Administrators with engineering support for new business and capital maintenance design functions. Assists Distribution Design Team and the Design Trainer with practical field training to ensure all designs and material lists are accurate, workable and are in accordance with Company's construction standards and specifications. Ensures job site readiness prior to construction. Performs work on special projects and/or multi-disciplinary projects. Provides direction and technical assistance to less experienced team members. Assists the Regional Engineer with their job responsibilities and supports Electric Operations in emergency restoration and dispatching activities.
Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provides Utility Design Administrators with engineering support, coaching, mentoring, and development.
  • Assists Distribution Design team in the development of all design and materials to ensure they are accurate, workable and are in accordance with Company's construction standards and specifications and cost effectiveness.
  • Reviews and evaluates designs and material lists/estimates for accuracy prior to construction and initiates resolutions.
  • Leads functional teams and provides technical oversight in performing all phases of projects.
  • Assists with internal training for engineers and technicians.
  • Advises Construction Team Leader, Lead Lineman, and Clerk Dispatcher of unusual construction needs. Ensures job site readiness prior to construction.
  • Required to open and inspect energized equipment and facilities.
  • Provides direction and technical assistance to less experienced team members and trains employees on products, services, and technology.
  • Assists the Design Trainer in providing practical field training to design team.
  • Serves as a liaison between Distribution Design and Operations/Construction.
  • Ensures all compliance aspects of position are known and followed; understands and complies with all policies, codes, and regulations applicable to position and company.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Essential Education, Skills, and Environment
Education and Work Experience
Engineering degree from an accredited college/university and 8 years industry experience. Requires PE license.
If no PE license, must have 10 years' experience as a practicing Engineer.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills
Demonstrated knowledge of:
  • Laws and regulations applicable to the corporation.
  • All areas of business operations.
  • Company's products and services.
  • Administrative services.
  • Utility design/construction principles and practices.
  • Working with projects in an electric utility.
  • Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Electric/gas design, operating and construction practice.
  • All applicable federal, state, and local rules and regulations governing electric/gas sub transmission and distribution construction.

Demonstrated skills such as:
  • Detail oriented, human relations, time management, communication, decision-making, presentation, interpersonal and organizational.
  • Analytical, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication.

Preferred Skills
Proficiency in AutoCAD or similar Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) program preferred.
Equipment and Applications
PCs, word processing, spreadsheet and database software.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
General office environment with some field work. Must be able to work safely around energized facilities.
Occasional travel required.
