JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION: Preschool Floater
REPORTS TO: ECEC Principal
EMPLOYER: Mattawan Consolidated School
SUMMARY:
The primary job goals of the Preschool Floater position are to effectively become a member of a preschool teaching team and to participate in subbing for paraprofessionals, supporting daily programs, participating in children's activities, and providing release time for staff. In addition, the preschool floater will support the infrastructure of the classroom by helping maintain the environment and all other required activities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must be 19 years of age.
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Prior job-related experiences, paid or voluntary, with school-age children is preferred.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist in the implementation of the daily program under the direction of the lead teacher.
  • Participate in planning and preparing the learning environment, lesson plans, setting up interest centers and preparing needed materials and supplies.
  • Supervise the classroom in the teacher's presence and/or absence.
  • Assist with general housekeeping and food preparation tasks.
  • Maintain a professional attitude and loyalty to preschool programs.
  • Treat all children and their parents with the ultimate respect and dignity.
  • Attend and complete recommended training programs and professional development.
  • Maintain confidentiality about children and their families.
  • Supervise and participate in outdoor play.
  • Participate in recordkeeping: attendance, meals/snacks, etc.
  • Perform other duties/responsibilities as assigned by the lead teacher and/or supervisors.
  • Assist in adhering to licensure rules and regulations
  • Supervise students throughout the school building and on the playground.
  • Assists in maintaining a neat, orderly and attractive learning environment;
  • Monitors student activities, student behavior, and changes in student behavior,
  • Disposes of waste contaminated materials, food and toys to maintain the hygiene and health of students and staff;
  • Understand and carry out oral and written directions;
  • Maintain cooperative, effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work;
  • Meet schedules and deadlines;
  • Assist in additional duties as assigned by administration.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Sitting, standing, lifting and carrying (up to 50 pounds), reaching, squatting, climbing stairs, kneeling, must be able to see and hear the entire classroom, and moving light furniture may be required.
SAFETY AND HEALTH:
Knowledge of universal hygiene precautions.
EQUIPMENT/MATERIALS HANDLED:
Must know how to properly operate or be willing to learn to operate all multimedia equipment including current technology.
