Job Description: Program Director, Diagnostic Radiology Residency


Organization: A leading healthcare system in partnership with a premier radiology imaging network

Location: Coastal Southwest Florida

Role Type: Founding Program Director for a new ACGME-accredited Diagnostic Radiology residency program

Reports To: GME leadership; collaborates closely with the imaging partner's clinical leaders and site directors.


Position Overview


A prominent healthcare system is establishing a new ACGME-accredited Diagnostic Radiology residency program through a strategic partnership with a leading radiology imaging network. The Founding Program Director will oversee the initiative from ACGME application and accreditation onward, including team assembly, resident recruitment, program launch, and initial growth phases. This is a high-impact leadership position for a seasoned educator with operational acumenโ€”ideal for someone who can build a compliant, high-quality training framework across hospital and outpatient settings, utilize robust imaging resources and subspecialty depth, and incorporate forward-looking training in practice management, informatics, and operational excellence.

The Program Director must be ABR or AOBR board-certified in Diagnostic Radiology, stay actively involved in clinical practice, and possess at least 3 years of pertinent educational and/or administrative experience.


Protected Time & Administrative Support


Dedicated administrative time will be provided in accordance with ACGME requirements and scaled appropriately to program demands, supported by a dedicated program coordinator.

Core Responsibilities


The Program Director will hold overall authority and accountability for program operations, educational excellence, scholarly efforts, resident selection/evaluation/advancement, supervision, and clinical training.

  • Program Development & Accreditation โ€” Direct the ACGME application and accreditation efforts, implement compliance processes, and manage affiliations with participating sites.
  • Curriculum & Rotations โ€” Create an effective educational structure and multi-site rotation plan that delivers comprehensive, high-volume clinical training while emphasizing protected learning time.
  • Faculty Leadership โ€” Recruit and mentor core faculty across essential radiology areas; lead competency and program evaluation committees; foster an environment of strong teaching and constructive feedback.
  • Resident Recruitment & Branding โ€” Develop recruitment approaches and establish a distinctive program identity centered on clinical mastery, consultative abilities, and contemporary practice skills.
  • Practice & Informatics Focus โ€” Integrate targeted education in business operations, informatics systems, quality measures, and emerging technologies to equip residents for modern radiology careers.
  • Quality & Outcomes โ€” Establish systems to track clinical exposure, performance indicators, safety, and ongoing program improvement.


Required Qualifications

  • MD or DO with eligibility for (or current) Florida medical licensure.
  • Active ABR or AOBR certification in Diagnostic Radiology with continued clinical involvement.
  • Minimum 3 years of documented experience in educational and/or administrative roles (e.g., associate program director, section leadership with teaching responsibilities, fellowship or clerkship direction, committee leadership).
  • Proven collaborative leadership in multi-site hospital and outpatient imaging contexts.
  • Established track record in trainee teaching, mentoring, assessment, and professionalism.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in ACGME program leadership or in developing/expanding training programs.
  • Background in community, private-practice, or hybrid radiology environments.
  • Enthusiasm for or expertise in practice management, informatics, quality improvement, analytics, or technology integration.
  • Contributions to scholarship, education, or related fields.
