Job description

Title: Welder/Fitter
Location: Mt. Vernon, IN (Evansville region)
Division: TMI Fabricators
Direct Report: Shop Supervisor 
Hourly Range: $18+
Job Summary:

As a Welder/ Fitter, you are responsible for joining, fabricating, and repairing metal and other weldable materials using appropriate welding techniques and equipment. The ideal candidate can interpret technical drawings and blueprints, inspect welds for structural integrity, and work safely in potentially hazardous environments.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Valid forklift certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Prior forklift operation or general labor experience preferred
  • Moderate understanding of general fabrication or warehouse processes
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly
  • Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and reliability
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills
  • Willingness to follow directions and ask questions when unsure
Key Responsibilities:
  • Joins, fabricates and repairs metal and other weldable materials using MIG, TIG, Stick, or Flux-Core welding methods
  • Operates various welding devices and fabrication tools such as grinders, torches, and plasma cutters
  • Interprets blueprints, specifications, diagrams and schematics to determine layout, welding technique, and material requirements
  • Fits and assembles metal parts with precision using measuring instruments such as calipers, squares, and tape measures
  • Inspects completed welds to ensure structural soundness, dimensional accuracy, and compliance with specifications
  • Performs grinding, cutting, and finishing tasks to complete fabrication processes
  • Follows all safety protocols and procedures for working in hazardous environments, including PPE usage and proper ventilation
  • Works closely with supervisors and team members to meet quality standards and project timelines
  • Maintains a clean, organized, and safe work area
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Completion of a welding apprenticeship and/or formal training program preferred
  • 2+ years of experience in welding and fitting (structural steel, pipe, or fabrication setting preferred)
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints and weld symbols
  • Strong understanding of various welding processes and their applications
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding work in various positions
  • Attention to detail, safety awareness, and commitment to craftsmanship
  • Must pass a welding test and may be required to provide certifications
