How much do precision electronics jobs pay per year?

As of Jun 9, 2026, the average yearly pay for precision electronics in the United States is $92,343.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $67,000.00 and $116,500.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are precision electronics?

Precision electronics refer to electronic devices, components, or systems engineered to operate with exceptionally high accuracy and minimal error. These products are commonly used in applications that demand reliable measurements and performance, such as medical equipment, aerospace systems, scientific instruments, and advanced manufacturing. Precision electronics often include sensors, measurement instruments, and control systems that must function within strict tolerances. Professionals in this field focus on designing, testing, and maintaining devices to ensure they meet rigorous performance standards.

What is the difference between Precision Electronics vs Electronics Technician?

AspectPrecision ElectronicsElectronics Technician
CertificationsOften requires specialized certifications in precision assembly and calibrationTypically requires an associate degree or technical certification in electronics
Work EnvironmentHigh-precision manufacturing, laboratories, aerospace, and medical device industriesRepair shops, manufacturing plants, telecommunications, and maintenance settings
Job FocusDesign, calibration, and assembly of highly accurate electronic componentsTesting, troubleshooting, and repairing electronic systems and devices

Precision Electronics specialists focus on assembling and calibrating highly accurate electronic components, often in specialized industries like aerospace or medical devices. Electronics Technicians perform maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electronic systems across various industries. While both roles require technical knowledge of electronics, Precision Electronics emphasizes precision and calibration skills, whereas Electronics Technicians focus on system repair and maintenance.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in Precision Electronics, and how can they be overcome?

Professionals in Precision Electronics often face challenges such as maintaining extremely high accuracy in component assembly, troubleshooting complex circuitry, and keeping pace with rapid technological advancements. To overcome these, it's important to develop strong attention to detail, stay updated with the latest industry standards, and continuously improve technical skills through ongoing training. Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams—such as design engineers, quality assurance, and production—also helps in efficiently resolving issues and ensuring product reliability.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Precision Electronics Technician, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Precision Electronics Technician, you need a solid background in electronics theory, circuit analysis, and troubleshooting, often supported by an associate degree or technical certification in electronics. Familiarity with oscilloscopes, multimeters, soldering equipment, and industry standards like IPC certification is typical. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and strong communication skills help technicians excel in diagnosing and repairing complex electronic systems. These competencies ensure the reliability and accuracy of sensitive equipment, which is crucial in fields like aerospace, medical devices, and manufacturing.
