How much do precast detailer jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 14, 2026, the average hourly pay for precast detailer in the United States is $17.03, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $13.70 and $17.79 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Precast Detailer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Precast Detailer, you need a solid background in drafting, structural detailing, and construction standards, often supported by an associate degree or relevant certification. Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, or other 3D modeling software, as well as knowledge of precast concrete systems, is typically required. Strong attention to detail, effective communication, and problem-solving skills set top performers apart in this role. These abilities ensure accurate and efficient creation of shop drawings, leading to successful project execution and minimized construction errors.

What is the difference between Precast Detailer vs Structural Draftsman?

AspectPrecast DetailerStructural Draftsman
CredentialsExperience with precast concrete, CAD skillsEngineering degree or drafting certification
Work EnvironmentConstruction sites, precast manufacturing plantsArchitectural/engineering firms, design offices
Industry UsagePrecast concrete industry, construction projectsStructural engineering, building design

The Precast Detailer focuses on creating detailed shop drawings for precast concrete elements, working closely with manufacturing teams. The Structural Draftsman prepares structural drawings for various building components, often in design offices. While both roles require CAD skills and understanding of structural concepts, the Precast Detailer specializes in precast concrete details, whereas the Structural Draftsman covers broader structural designs.

What is a precast detailer?

A precast detailer is a construction professional who creates detailed drawings and shop plans for precast concrete components used in building projects. They interpret architectural and structural designs, use CAD software, and coordinate with fabricators and engineers to ensure accurate manufacturing and installation of precast elements.

How much do rebar detailers make in the US?

Rebar detailers in the US typically earn between $20 and $30 per hour, with annual salaries ranging from approximately $40,000 to $60,000. Compensation varies based on experience, certifications, and geographic location, and the role often requires proficiency with detailing software like AutoCAD or Revit.

What jobs pay 2000 a day?

Precast detailers typically do not earn $2000 a day; such high daily earnings are more common in specialized or executive roles. High-paying jobs that can reach this level often include certain consulting, executive management, or specialized trades with significant experience and certifications. Most roles paying this amount require advanced skills, extensive experience, or working in high-demand industries.

What is the highest paying concrete job?

Precast detailers typically earn competitive wages, but the highest paying concrete jobs are often supervisory roles such as concrete project managers or estimators, who oversee large projects and require extensive experience and certifications. Skilled positions involving specialized knowledge of concrete design, installation, and quality control tend to offer higher salaries within the industry.

What does a Precast Detailer do?

A Precast Detailer is responsible for creating detailed drawings and plans for precast concrete elements used in construction projects. They work closely with architects, engineers, and manufacturers to ensure that all dimensions, connections, and reinforcements are accurately represented. Precast Detailers use specialized CAD software to produce shop drawings that guide the fabrication and installation of precast components. Their work is essential for ensuring the structural integrity and successful assembly of buildings and infrastructure.

What are some common challenges faced by Precast Detailers when coordinating with engineers and contractors?

Precast Detailers often encounter challenges when integrating design changes from engineers or accommodating site-specific requirements from contractors. Ensuring that shop drawings are accurate and up-to-date with the latest revisions is critical, as miscommunication can lead to costly errors in fabrication or installation. Effective collaboration and clear communication are essential, as Precast Detailers must reconcile structural requirements, production capabilities, and installation constraints while meeting tight project deadlines.
