Work EnvironmentShadowing, observation, and basic clinical tasks in healthcare settingsPerforming medical exams, diagnosing, and treating patients under supervision
Employer & Industry UsagePre-health programs, hospitals, clinics for student exposureHospitals, clinics, healthcare facilities as licensed providers

The Pre Pa Student Internship is an entry-level, observational role designed for students exploring the healthcare field, often involving shadowing and basic tasks. In contrast, a Physician Assistant is a licensed healthcare professional who performs medical duties independently under supervision. The internship provides foundational exposure, while the PA role involves full clinical responsibilities.

Are there pre-PA student internships?

Pre-PA student internships are available at some healthcare facilities and clinics to provide hands-on experience in medical assisting, patient care, and healthcare operations. These internships often require current enrollment in a pre-physician assistant program or related coursework and may include shadowing, observation, or assisting healthcare professionals.

What should I be doing as a pre-PA student?

As a pre-PA student, you should focus on gaining healthcare experience through shadowing, volunteering, or working in medical settings, and maintaining a strong academic record. Developing skills in communication, teamwork, and basic medical knowledge, along with preparing for the GRE and gaining relevant certifications, can strengthen your application for a Physician Assistant program.
