How much do pre law professor jobs pay per year?
What are some common responsibilities of a pre law professor?
Pre Law Professors are typically responsible for developing and teaching undergraduate courses that introduce students to foundational legal concepts and critical thinking skills. They often advise students on career paths, law school applications, and internships in the legal field, serving as mentors. Additional duties may include conducting and publishing research, participating in academic committees, and staying current with developments in legal education. Collaboration with colleagues across departments and with career services staff is also common to ensure students receive well-rounded preparation for law school.
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a pre law professor?
To thrive as a Pre Law Professor, you need a deep understanding of legal principles, higher education teaching experience, and a relevant advanced degree—typically a Juris Doctor (JD) or PhD in law or related fields. Experience with classroom management systems, legal research databases (like Westlaw or LexisNexis), and curriculum design software is also beneficial. Strong communication, mentorship, and organizational skills set exceptional candidates apart. These competencies are essential for effectively preparing students for law school and successfully managing the academic responsibilities of the role.
What is a pre law professor?
A Pre-Law Professor is an academic professional who teaches courses related to legal studies, critical thinking, and the foundations of law to undergraduate students preparing for law school. They provide guidance on legal concepts, assist with law school applications, and may conduct research in legal studies or related fields. Their role is to equip students with the analytical and writing skills necessary for success in law school and legal careers.

Job description
The Law Department at Bentley University is seeking applicants for a tenure track, full-time position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin July 1, 2027. While class sizes may vary, Law courses are generally capped at 35 students.
The department seeks to acquaint students with the legal consequences of their business decisions, as well as to help them understand the role of law in society beyond the business world. The role requires teaching our undergraduate business law class and, possibly, our graduate course in law, ethics, and social responsibility. We seek candidates who can also add to our strengths in Health Law, Securities Law, and social justice law courses. Candidates with the ability and willingness to teach in one or more of these areas are especially attractive.
In addition to teaching, the chosen candidate will be expected to publish high quality and impactful scholarship in respected academic journals, engage in service to both the Department and the University, and participate fully in the Department and University communities. Applicants must also be willing to work with students outside the classroom in a variety of capacities (e.g., advising students, engaging outside speakers, advising student organizations, working with service learning and career services, or other relevant activities).
The Law Department currently offers both an undergraduate Business Law Major and a Law Minor. Both the Major and Minor seek to serve a broad range of business students and are not intended as preparation for law school. Instead, they provide an in-depth study of business laws that impact specific arenas of a business enterprise, while also offering an examination of the intersection of business laws with other laws, including those that attempt to address public policy and social justice issues.
The Department offers Pre-Law Advising to students interested in attending law school. We also seek to actively engage with students through our Adamian Law Club and Moot Court Team. More information about the Bentley University Law Department is available at: Bentley University Law Department

With a strong faculty of teacher-scholars, Bentley strives to be a "Force for Good" through the integration of business with the arts and sciences, and a strong emphasis on ethics and social responsibility. Providing a stimulating academic community for faculty, staff, and students, Bentley supports its faculty as they pursue cutting-edge research and bring their expertise and real world understanding into the classroom.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Juris Doctorate (JD)
- Demonstrated potential for excellent undergraduate and/or graduate teaching.
- Promise of producing high quality and impactful scholarship.
- Evidence of a willingness to engage with students outside the classroom and to participate in department and university service.
- Familiarity with Brightspace and Zoom or a willingness to learn. Bentley University makes training available for both platforms
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience teaching undergraduate law courses within a business program/curriculum.
- Proven ability to publish in law reviews.
Special Instructions to Applicants:
For best consideration, please apply by October 1, 2026. All applicants will be asked to include the following documents as part of their application:
- CV
- A letter of interest indicating why the candidate is a good fit at Bentley and its Law department.
- A Teaching Statement, which should include a description of how the faculty member has demonstrated or intends to create and support an inclusive classroom environment.
- A Research Statement, which should describe the faculty member's plans for developing a research stream and/or area of legal expertise.
Pay Transparency:
At Bentley we offer a "total rewards" package designed to attract, motivate, retain, and reward our employees. This includes competitive compensation, robust benefits, career development and opportunities, generous paid time off, workplace flexibility and a positive, engaging employee experience. In alignment with the Massachusetts Pay Transparency Act and our commitment to equity and transparency, we're sharing the salary grade range for this role. The grade range is based on market data and the scope of responsibilities. Final pay will depend on your experience, education, and other relevant qualifications.

- Assistant Professor: $111,666 - $151,078
If you have questions about the salary grade range or need additional information, please contact us at GA_HR_Employment@bentley.edu.
