To thrive as a Pre Hospital RN, you need advanced clinical skills in emergency care, rapid patient assessment, and trauma management, supported by RN licensure and often additional certifications such as ACLS, PALS, and PHTLS. Familiarity with pre-hospital equipment (defibrillators, airway management tools, mobile documentation systems) and protocols is essential. Excellent communication, decision-making under pressure, and teamwork are critical soft skills for this role. These competencies ensure that Pre Hospital RNs can deliver immediate, life-saving care and collaborate effectively with EMS and receiving hospital teams.
Pre Hospital RNs work primarily in mobile and dynamic environments, such as ambulances, air medical units, or field response teams. Their daily routine includes responding to emergency calls, quickly assessing patients at the scene, providing advanced life support interventions, and coordinating with EMTs, paramedics, and hospital staff to ensure seamless patient care. Shifts can be unpredictable, with varying patient acuity and a need for adaptability. Being part of a highly skilled team, a Pre Hospital RN must be prepared for physically and emotionally demanding situations, making teamwork and resilience key aspects of the job.
A Pre Hospital RN is a registered nurse who provides emergency medical care in pre-hospital settings, such as on ambulances, medical helicopters, or at accident scenes. They work alongside paramedics and first responders to stabilize patients before transporting them to a hospital. Their responsibilities include assessing patients, administering medications, performing life-saving procedures, and communicating with hospital staff for continued care.

Overview:
The Ambulatory Surgery Unit, or ASU, is located on the ground floor of the main hospital adjacent to the Operating Room (OR) and Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU). It consists of a 28- bed surgery prep unit and a 32-bed outpatient unit for pre and postoperative care for pediatric patients and adult postoperative care.

Position Overview:
Under the direct supervision of the ASUNurse Manager, the Pre-Admission Nurse performs:
Assessment with the patient prior to admission via a phone interview or in person
Collects the patients' medical history from previous medical records
Works closely with the anesthesia department in coordinating the patient's needs
Performs direct patient care activities for all age groups.
Responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the care for patients in accordance with the plan of care, established hospital and departmental policies, procedures, and standards of care.
Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.
Qualifications:
Required:
Education:Graduate of an accredited nursing program
Licensure:Current RN license in the state of practice
Experience:Minimum of 2 years of RN experience
Certifications:Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Heart Association
Other Skills:Strong clinical skills, effective communication, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment

Education:Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
