Preadmission Registered Nurse

Under the direct supervision of the Director of Peri-Anesthesia Services and the Supervisor, implementing the Pre-Op holding record (patients’ medical record), and the assimilation of the patients’ hospital record for Baylor Scott & White Surgical Hospital Las Colinas. The pre-admission nurse is also responsible for implementing the nursing process performing needed pre-op testing and providing for the continuity and quality of nursing care for patients in the POD and PSU areas when required to float to these areas.

Baylor Scott & White Surgical Hospital Las Colinas is a joint venture surgical hospital between Baylor Scott & White Health (BSWH), United Surgical Partners International (USPI), and local physicians. Baylor Scott & White Surgical Hospital Las Colinas provides a wide range of medical and surgical services to the greater North Texas area across 7 ORs, 12 private inpatient rooms, and a 3 bed ED. The hospital specializes in both inpatient and outpatient procedures in Orthopedics, Joint Replacement, Spine, Urology, General Surgery, ENT, and other surgical specialties.

Job Duties:

  • Delivers indirect and direct patient care according to established standards, taking into consideration the age and risk factors of the patient.
  • Plans and prepares for the pre-admission of the patient.
  • Plans and provides patient care based upon the nursing process and in accordance with hospital policies, protocols and procedures.
  • Assesses the needs of the patient while providing for safe and optimum care.
  • Demonstrates adherence to legal guidelines as related to patient care.
  • Assumes supervision of nursing care provisions within an assigned nursing unit during an assigned shift.

Education

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, BSN preferred

Licensure/Certification

  • Current Texas RN License
  • Current BLS, must get ACLS within 6 months of hire

Specific Job Experience

Minimum one (1) year experience in surgery or has completed a specialty class for the clinical RN

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Strong knowledge base relative to surgery procedures and management of the surgical patient.

Demonstrates discretionary ability in establishing priority.

Uses nursing judgment in decision-making

Able to recognize and intervene in stressful situations and perform effectively in stressful situations to fulfill position responsibilities
