Powershell Automation information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a PowerShell Automation Specialist, and why are they important?

To excel in PowerShell Automation, you need strong scripting and automation skills, deep knowledge of Windows environments, and experience with system administration, typically supported by relevant IT certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Windows Server or Azure. Familiarity with tools like PowerShell ISE, Visual Studio Code, version control systems (e.g., Git), and automation platforms is important. Problem-solving ability, attention to detail, and effective communication are critical soft skills that enable successful collaboration and efficient troubleshooting. These competencies ensure reliable automation, streamlined workflows, and reduced manual errors in complex IT infrastructures.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in PowerShell Automation, and how can they be addressed?

One common challenge in PowerShell Automation roles is ensuring scripts are robust and adaptable to different environments, which often requires thorough testing and error handling. Another challenge is managing and securing credentials, as automation frequently involves accessing sensitive systems; leveraging tools like Windows Credential Manager or secure vault solutions can help address this. Team collaboration is also essential, as scripts need to be well-documented and version-controlled to support ongoing maintenance and handoffs. Staying updated with the latest PowerShell modules and best practices is important for long-term success in the role.

What is the difference between Powershell Automation vs Windows System Administrator?

Both roles often overlap but serve different primary functions within IT operations.

What is PowerShell automation and what is it used for?

PowerShell automation refers to the use of PowerShell scripts and cmdlets to automate repetitive or complex tasks in Windows environments. It is commonly used by system administrators and IT professionals to manage, configure, and monitor systems, such as automating user account creation, software installations, and system updates. PowerShell automation helps save time, reduce human error, and improve efficiency by allowing tasks to be executed automatically or on a schedule across multiple systems. It also integrates well with other Microsoft products and cloud services, making it a powerful tool for enterprise environments.

Job description

We are:

Accenture's Oracle practice, and we make the new happen now. Every day, we imagine the future and bring it to life using design thinking, agile development methodologies, and new smart tech like IoT, automation, and AI. We even built our own platform, myConcerto, that mixes the best parts of Accenture and Oracle to help companies come into their own as digital leaders. Ready to find genius answers to seriously hard business challenges and work with some of the best? Come join a team that feels personal even though it's over 54,000 strong. As a Global Cloud Elite and Platinum member of the Oracle Partner Network with over 145 awards, we're proud the industry is taking notice of our work, too. Visit us here to find out more about Accenture's Oracle practice (https://www.accenture.com/us-en/services/oracle-index).

You are:

A senior automation strategist and hands-on delivery leader who knows how to apply RPA, AI agents, and scripting to solve real operational problems - not just build demos. You bring the technical depth to design automation solutions and the leadership experience to guide a team from backlog to production. You understand the stakes of hypercare and business operations in a large-scale Oracle Utilities transition, and you know how to prioritize automation opportunities that reduce risk, accelerate stabilization, and free up people to focus on the work that matters most. You're equally comfortable in a strategy conversation with program leadership and in a build session with your automation engineers.

The work:

  • Define and lead the automation strategy for the NFG IT Transition program, identifying and prioritizing automation opportunities across hypercare operations, business processes, and ongoing IT support workflows.
  • Design, build, and deploy automation solutions using RPA tools (e.g., UiPath, Automation Anywhere, Power Automate), AI agents, and scripting (Python, Shell, PowerShell) to streamline utility business and operations processes.
  • Lead a team of automation engineers and analysts, setting delivery priorities, reviewing solution designs, and ensuring quality and maintainability of automation assets.
  • Collaborate with Oracle Utilities functional leads, infrastructure teams, and business stakeholders to identify manual, high-volume, or error-prone processes suitable for automation.
  • Build automation solutions that support hypercare operations including batch monitoring, defect triage workflows, incident ticket routing, data validation routines, and status reporting.
  • Establish automation governance standards including solution documentation, version control, testing protocols, and operational handoff procedures.
  • Manage the automation delivery pipeline - from opportunity assessment and business case through build, test, and production deployment - ensuring traceability and stakeholder alignment.
  • Identify opportunities to apply AI-powered agents and intelligent automation to enhance Oracle Utilities support and operational readiness workflows.
  • Report automation delivery progress, realized benefits, and pipeline status to program leadership on a regular cadence.

Travel may be required for this role. The amount of travel will vary from 0 to 100% depending on business need and client requirements.

Here's what you need:

  • Minimum 6 years of experience designing and delivering automation solutions using RPA platforms (e.g., UiPath, Automation Anywhere, Blue Prism, or Power Automate) in enterprise or utility environments.

  • Minimum 4 years of experience in a lead or manager role overseeing automation delivery teams, including solution design review, resource management, and stakeholder engagement.

  • Minimum 3 years of experience developing automation or scripting solutions using Python, Shell, or PowerShell in a technology delivery or IT operations context.

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent (12 years) work experience (If an, Associate's Degree with 6 years of work experience)

Bonus Points If:

  • RPA platform certification (UiPath, Automation Anywhere, Microsoft Power Automate, or equivalent).

  • Experience automating processes within or around Oracle Utilities applications (CC&B, C2M, CCS, WACS, or equivalent).

  • Familiarity with utility industry operations including billing runs, meter-to-cash workflows, batch scheduling, or field service processes.

  • Experience with test automation frameworks (e.g., Selenium, Tosca) in addition to RPA and scripting.

  • Exposure to AI/LLM-powered agent frameworks (e.g., LangChain, Microsoft Copilot Studio, or equivalent) applied to enterprise process automation.
