Visual Communications Specialist (PowerPoint SME)

Remote, USA

EMKS is seeking a Visual Communications Specialist to support the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Office of Information Technology (OIT) Independent Enterprise Testing Support Services (IETSS) contract. This position will be part of the Test Management and Operations (TMO) Testing Process Quality Improvement (TPQI) Support team, which consists of Measurement and Metrics (MM), quality process management and process improvement, lessons learned, Change Management, Knowledge Management, internal Quality Audit Program, Root Cause Analysis (RCA) process, and Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) planning. The TPQI team supports and works closely with the Test and Evaluation (T&E) and Testing Intake Assessment services teams, as well as the Test Center (TC) systems analysts, systems administrators, database administrators (DBAs), the VA project manager (PM), VA Contracting Officer's Representative (COR), and other divisions and stakeholders.

Duties/Responsibilities:

A Visual Communications Specialist (PowerPoint SME) is a professional who combines graphic design, multimedia production, and presentation skills to create compelling, brand-aligned visual content. This role often serves as an expert in PowerPoint and related software, ensuring that presentations are visually engaging, technically sound, and aligned with organizational goals.

  • Design & Production: Create and coordinate promotional, informational, and educational materials using graphic design, text, and visual content to achieve desired objectives.
  • PowerPoint Expertise: Serve as a subject matter expert in PowerPoint, developing templates, animations, transitions, and layouts that enhance clarity, engagement, and professionalism.
  • Multimedia & Digital Media: Produce and maintain digital media, including websites and infographics.
  • Print & Digital Outputs: Design and produce print materials such as brochures, newsletters, and signage, ensuring brand consistency across all formats.
  • Collaboration: Work with internal and external stakeholders to translate design briefs into effective visual solutions, maintaining brand guidelines and quality standards.
  • Project Management: Manage multiple tasks and deadlines efficiently, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality deliverables.
  • Brand Ambassador: Educate colleagues on brand standards and ensure all visual communications reflect the organization's identity.
  • Technical Skills: Use advanced features in graphic and presentation software (e.g., PowerPoint, Adobe Creative Suite, Visio) to automate and enhance design processes.
  • Perform a technical edit for quality assurance on all presentation and documentation prior to delivery to the customer.
  • Create and implement consistent templates and documentation styles for all PowerPoints, Diagrams, and technical publications.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts when creating user guides, process documentation, new templates, template updates, and presentations to understand project specifications and needs.
  • Analyze team presentations to ensure efficiency and that all aspects of the process are documented.
  • Create, edit, and maintain training material, brown bags, and instructional supplements to ensure processes are understood as well as review all documentation and training materials to keep them up to date.
  • Provide a high level of customer service by adopting the customer's mission and working towards success.
  • Work with AI to improve these functions.

Required Qualifications:

  • 5-7 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Technical Skills: Expert proficiency in PowerPoint, graphics design or related experience.
  • Design Skills: Strong understanding of typography, color theory, layout, and visual hierarchy.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication to collaborate with stakeholders and present work effectively.
  • Project Management: Ability to manage multiple projects under deadlines.
  • Brand Knowledge: Understanding of brand guidelines and application in design work.
  • Experience in technical writing.
  • Mastery of the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Visio, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams).
  • Strong understanding of SharePoint and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
  • Understanding of data quality principles and dashboard design concepts.
  • Experience with utilizing AI tools to improve communications.
  • Ability to revise one's own work or the work of others to make documents or presentations clearer and more persuasive.
  • Work in both a team environment and independently.
  • Coach and mentor other technical writers.
  • Assist Technical Writers and Quality Control.
  • Work in a fast paced, multi-faceted environment.
  • Prior exposure to government, VA, or DoD environments is beneficial.
  • Current Moderate Background Investigation (MBI) and VA network access a plus.

Education/Certifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Graphics Design, Journalism, or related field.
  • Equivalent experience or industry certifications may substitute for formal education

Clearance:

  • U.S. Citizenship is required as is successfully passing a thorough Government background screening (Public Trust) requiring the completion of detailed forms and fingerprinting.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain necessary security clearances as required for access to classified information.
