Job description

Join the Market Leader in Electric Power Data and Analytics Solutions

The electrical grid is the largest and most complicated machine ever built. Yes Energy's industry-leading electric power trading analytics software provides real-time visibility into the massive amount of data generated by the North American electrical grid daily. Our unique and innovative view of the data informs real-time trading decisions and mid-to-long-term investment decisions that keep utility prices low, support the energy transition, and keep the grid running. It's both challenging work and work with a purpose.

Be a part of our successful, growing business during international transformation.

Position Summary:

As a Data Engineer on the Bid-to-Bill Operations Engineers team, you will sit at the intersection of software engineering, customer operations, and market execution. You'll work directly with customers and internal teams to solve complex production challenges, investigate issues, improve system reliability, and build automation that eliminates repetitive work.

Our customers depend on Yes Energy to run critical market operations involving settlements, billing, scheduling, and energy transactions worth millions of dollars each day.

Success in this role is not measured by lines of code written. It is measured by making systems more reliable, reducing operational friction, improving customer outcomes, and creating leverage for the broader organization.

If you enjoy solving real-world problems, understanding how systems behave in production, and building practical solutions that make people's lives easier, this role offers an opportunity to have an outsized impact.

Position Details:

  • Salary range: $100,000-125,000 USD
  • Location: Boulder, CO;
  • Full-time
  • Hybrid - 2-3 days in the office
  • Reporting to: Operations Engineer Manager
  • Travel requirements: Up to 5%

Why This Role Matters:

Our team sits at the center of some of the most operationally demanding workflows in North American power markets, including highly accurate financial settlements, billing, scheduling, and transaction processes that Utilities, Independent Power Producers, and others rely on to run their business. This role exists to make those systems more reliable, more scalable, and easier to operate. You'll help transform operational knowledge into software, replace manual workflows with automation, and improve the experience for both customers and internal teams.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Partner directly with customers to investigate and resolve complex operational and technical issues.
  • Serve as a trusted technical resource during production incidents and customer escalations.
  • Identify recurring operational problems and build automation to eliminate them.
  • Improve system observability through monitoring, alerting, dashboards, and diagnostic tooling.
  • Reduce manual operational effort through workflow and process automation.
  • Develop and maintain software and database solutions using C#, SQL Server, and related technologies.
  • Improve the reliability, performance, and maintainability of existing production systems.
  • Convert production learnings into permanent improvements.
  • Document operational knowledge and improve team resilience through knowledge sharing.
  • Provide after-hours support, for critical production issues

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Four-year college degree or equivalent working experience
  • A minimum of 3 experience with C#, javascript,
  • Strong skills in SQL, MS SQL server
  • We actively use AI-assisted development, automation, and operational tooling. We expect engineers to leverage AI as a force multiplier for investigation, coding, documentation, testing, and workflow improvement
  • Communication, across team, with clients both written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Market knowledge, power trading, settlements, billing
  • Microsoft Azure knowledge
  • Vue.js experience

You might love this role if:

  • You are an engineer who is energized by production reality
  • You look for patterns, ask why things are breaking, and build practical improvements that make the team better
  • You get satisfaction from eliminating repetitive work through automation.
  • You find yourself asking "why does this keep happening?" instead of just fixing today's issues.
  • You like working directly with customers each day and understanding how software impacts real businesses.
  • Curiosity comes natural and you have the eye for change
  • Eager to provide feedback and improve the team as a whole

At Yes Energy, we value connecting directly with candidates. We kindly ask that third-party recruiters and agencies not submit resumes, as we are not open to external recruiting partnerships.
