Job Description:

L3Harris is currently seeking a lead power supply design engineer who will join the design team to contribute to the growing power conversion circuit card design needs. The designer will apply their knowledge designing low and high voltage, high frequency switch mode power supplies in collaboration with fellow senior power supply engineers. The individual must work with other engineering disciplines to assure power supply designs meet the power, thermal, emissions and safety requirements of the system requirements.

Essential Functions:

  • Design AC/DC power converters
  • Design DC/DC power converters
  • Design power distribution architectures
  • Design and analyze EMI filters
  • Analyze analog/power circuits for stability, efficiency, power draw, in-rush, etc.
  • Write specifications and test approaches for power supply circuit designs
  • Select components for discrete power converter designs, or modules for systems
  • Create schematics for analog/power circuits, support printed circuit card design
  • Conduct and participate in internal peer design reviews, design verification testing of engineering units and oversight of design into production
  • Perform analog and power testing in a laboratory setting for development components and circuit cards
  • Work in conjunction with multi-disciplinary engineering teams for digital, RF, mechanical and systems engineers on the overall program/project performance

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 9 years of prior relevant (Power Supply, Electrical Engineering) experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 12 years of prior related experience

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Experience with power conversion design, power analysis, analog circuit simulation, control loops and stabilization.
  • Knowledge of high frequency magnetics design, development, and manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of AC/DC & DC/DC power converter design, build and test.
  • Understanding of power analysis with MathCad, Excel or similar tools.
  • Experience with electrical simulations using SIMPLIS and SPICE modeling tools.
  • Experience with CAD tools (preferably Mentor Graphics) for schematic entry and layout.
  • The individual must be able to work from oral and written instructions, be dependable, positive, assertive, a team player and have a strong desire to succeed.
  • Great communications skills to expeditiously coordinate efforts through all phases of the engineering and manufacturing process while contributing to a high-performance team environment to meet customer needs.
  • Willing to work overtime and weekends when required.
  • Experience with common lab equipment
  • Preferably able to obtain a US DoD security clearance
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD-704, MIL-STD-1275, MIL-STD-1399, and MIL-STD-461 is a plus.
  • Must be proficient with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio software.
  • Design experience in military or other ruggedized industries.

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in California, Seattle, Washington D.C., Maryland Greater Washington D.C. area, the city of Denver, Washington State and New York City, the salary range for this role is $125,000-$232,000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
