What is a power of attorney?

A Power of Attorney (POA) is a legal document that allows one person, known as the principal, to grant another person, called the agent or attorney-in-fact, the authority to act on their behalf in legal or financial matters. The POA can be limited to specific tasks or grant broad powers, depending on the needs of the principal. This document is commonly used for situations where the principal is unable to manage their affairs due to illness, absence, or incapacity.
