Job description

Job Title: Power Electronics Engineer

Job Description

We are seeking a Hardware Power Electronics Engineer to join our development team and help expand our product portfolio in solar, energy storage, EV charging, and test applications. The ideal candidate brings a strong skills in IGBT, Silicon Carbide (SiC) MOSFET, and Gallium Nitride (GaN) power conversion design, and enjoys leading innovative hardware projects from concept through productization in a collaborative, customer-focused environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop next-generation power electronics solutions for solar, energy storage, EV charging, and test applications using SiC and GaN MOSFET technologies.
  • Design and implement high-frequency bidirectional DC-DC converters, AC-DC grid-tie inverters, and resonant converter topologies.
  • Lead the full development lifecycle from initial concept and architecture through detailed design, prototyping, validation, and productization.
  • Create and refine innovative digital control algorithms to optimize performance, efficiency, and reliability of power converter systems.
  • Design advanced magnetics, including high-frequency inductors and transformers, to meet demanding electrical and thermal requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with PCB layout designers to realize high-density, high-voltage power designs with careful attention to EMI/EMC and thermal performance.
  • Work closely with mechanical designers to develop complete product designs, including sheet metal, heat sinks, bus bars, and other mechanical components.
  • Drive UL and CE compliance activities for various products, ensuring adherence to relevant safety and performance standards.
  • Lead EMC compliance efforts, including design strategies and testing to meet regulatory and customer requirements.
  • Maintain a strong focus on customer satisfaction and incorporate customer feedback into design decisions and product improvements.
  • Support project teams in achieving budget and schedule targets by providing accurate technical input and disciplined execution.
  • Foster open communication and effective collaboration across technical and business functions, including sales, operations, and quality.
  • Contribute to a culture of continuous learning, standardization, and high-quality design with a strong emphasis on manufacturability.
  • Ensure adherence to all safety rules, work regulations, and departmental housekeeping standards in the engineering environment.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Strong in power electronics design, including converters and related hardware.
  • Solid understanding of basic physics and electronics fundamentals.
  • Strong knowledge of high-frequency power stages, filtering, circuit protection, thermal management, and EMI/EMC considerations.
  • Proficiency with Matlab, Simulink, and SimPower Systems for modeling, simulation, and analysis of power electronic systems.
  • Demonstrated experience with product development processes, from concept through validation and release.
  • Minimum 4 years of related experience in power electronics and control systems design.
  • Excellent oral, written, and listening communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently, take ownership of assignments, and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Strong process orientation and discipline, with demonstrated use of structured problem-solving tools such as 5-Why Analysis, 8D methodologies, and six sigma approaches.
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service and teamwork in a technical environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in power electronics is highly desirable.
  • More than 5 years of industry experience in power converter development as a new product development (NPD) or research and development (R&D) engineer.
  • At least 5 years of experience in design, testing, and debugging of DC-DC or three-phase AC-DC converters with voltage ranges of approximately 400–900 V and power levels above 2 kW.
  • Experience in the design and selection of power semiconductor devices, cooling mechanisms, passive components, protection circuits, and sensing circuits.
  • Understanding of PCB layout design techniques for high-voltage, high-density power electronics.
  • Familiarity with UL1741 standards for grid-connected power converter systems.
  • Knowledge of typical safety and EMI standards applicable to power converter products.
  • Experience with EMC requirements and filter design to meet regulatory and customer specifications.
  • Understanding of hardware–mechanical interfaces and hardware–software interfaces in integrated systems.
  • Ability to apply fundamental analytical equations for high-frequency inductor and transformer design.
  • Experience coordinating and communicating with multiple vendors and cross-functional teams in a power electronics environment.
