About this Role
Power Engineering Services, a Quanta Services Company, is looking for an Protection & Control Designer to join our growing team. In this role, you will support the design and delivery of high-voltage substation projects for electric utilities, contractors, and developers. You'll contribute throughout the project lifecycle-from conceptual design through detailed engineering and construction support-while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality solutions.

What You'll Do
  • Develop comprehensive protection and control design packages for high-voltage substations, including:
    • Single-line diagrams
    • Protection and control schematics
    • Elementary and wiring diagrams
    • Control house layouts
    • Relay panel front and rear layouts
    • Bills of material (BOMs)
  • Design auxiliary systems, including station batteries, battery chargers, and associated equipment.
  • Coordinate with engineers, designers, and other disciplines to ensure accurate and efficient project execution.
  • Provide technical support during construction, respond to field questions, and assist with design revisions as needed.
  • Deliver quality work while meeting project schedules, budgets, and client expectations.

What You'll Bring
  • Associate degree in Engineering Technology or a related technical discipline
  • 6+ years of experience in protection and control design for utility substations
  • Experience designing substations ranging from 15kV through 345kV
  • Working knowledge of applicable IEEE, ANSI, and utility design standards.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD; experience with MicroStation is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of protection and control design principles, drafting standards, and construction practices.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies and design software as needed.
