Power BI Developer | Pasadena, California, United States
Role Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Power BI professional to design, implement, and manage enterprise-level reporting solutions with a focus on dashboards/Reports, data security through Row-Level Security (RLS) and reliable data refresh orchestration via Power BI Gateway.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and implement Row-Level Security (RLS) models including static and dynamic RLS using DAX expressions to ensure users only access authorized data
  • Troubleshoot gateway connectivity issues, refresh failures, and credential management
  • Define and enforce security roles at the dataset, workspace, and app levels
  • Collaborate with data engineering teams to optimize data models for performance and security
  • Develop and maintain Power BI datasets, reports, and dashboards using best practices
  • Monitor gateway health, refresh schedules, and capacity utilization

Required Skills & Experience:
    10+ years hands-on experience with Power BI Desktop, Power BI Service, and Power BI Gateway
  • Strong expertise in DAX
  • Deep understanding of data refresh mechanisms (scheduled, incremental, dataflows)
  • Proficiency in Power Query (M) and data modeling (star schema, relationships)
  • Knowledge of Azure Active Directory, security groups, and their integration with Power BI RLS
  • Familiarity with SQL Server, Azure SQL, and other common enterprise data sources
  • Understanding of Power BI REST APIs for automation of dataset/gateway management

Preferred Qualifications:
    Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate (PL-300)
  • Experience with Power BI Embedded and app-owns-data RLS scenarios
  • Familiarity with Power BI Admin Portal, usage metrics, and audit logs
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines for Power BI (ALM Toolkit, Power BI Deployment Pipelines)
  • Knowledge of Object-Level Security (OLS) in addition to RLS
  • Experience managing multiple gateway nodes in clustered environments
