Job description

Maintenance and Reliability Planning Manager


Kansas City, KS | On-Site
12-Month+ Contract
Monday-Friday | Day Shift
40 Hours/Week + Approximately 5 Hours OT Weekly


Our client, a well-established global manufacturer, is seeking an experienced Maintenance and Reliability Planning Manager to lead maintenance planning, scheduling, preventive and predictive maintenance, and reliability improvement efforts within a high-volume manufacturing operation.

This is a hands-on leadership role focused on building a more proactive, data-driven maintenance organization. The ideal candidate will bring strong experience with maintenance planning, SAP PM, reliability improvement, predictive maintenance, and manufacturing leadership.


Key Focus

  • Lead and develop the maintenance planning team.
  • Improve planned maintenance, schedule compliance, backlog health, and equipment reliability.
  • Own maintenance work processes from initial notification through planning, parts readiness, scheduling, execution, and closeout.
  • Strengthen preventive, predictive, and condition-based maintenance programs.
  • Maintain accurate SAP PM data, equipment BOMs, task lists, measuring points, and maintenance plans.
  • Use reliability data and KPIs to reduce unplanned downtime and improve equipment performance.


What You'll Do

  • Lead, coach, and develop maintenance planners while establishing clear expectations and accountability.
  • Develop detailed maintenance job plans covering labor, parts, materials, tools, safety requirements, procedures, and work steps.
  • Coordinate daily maintenance schedules, weekend work, preventive maintenance, and major outage planning.
  • Facilitate weekly planning and scheduling meetings with Maintenance and Operations leadership.
  • Improve maintenance KPIs including planned-work percentage, schedule compliance, backlog health, MTBF, MTTR, and OEE.
  • Own the accuracy and integrity of SAP Plant Maintenance master data.
  • Analyze equipment failures, downtime trends, and recurring issues using reliability data, FMEA, root-cause analysis, and Pareto analysis.
  • Expand predictive maintenance practices including vibration analysis, infrared thermography, oil analysis, and ultrasound.
  • Develop and maintain Power BI dashboards and advanced Excel models for maintenance and reliability performance.
  • Identify critical spare parts and maintain accurate equipment Bills of Material.
  • Partner with Operations, Engineering, Reliability, Quality, and Maintenance teams to improve equipment performance.
  • Support Continuous Improvement, Lean, 5S, and Reliability-Centered Maintenance initiatives.


What We're Looking For

  • 7+ years of industrial maintenance, maintenance planning, or reliability experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • 3+ years of leadership or supervisory experience with maintenance planners, technicians, or similar technical teams.
  • Expert-level experience with SAP Plant Maintenance (SAP PM) or a comparable enterprise CMMS.
  • Strong knowledge of work orders, maintenance plans, task lists, equipment BOMs, master data, and maintenance reporting.
  • Demonstrated success increasing planned maintenance and reducing reactive or unplanned maintenance.
  • Strong understanding of MTBF, MTTR, OEE, schedule compliance, backlog health, and planned maintenance KPIs.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables, Power Query, complex formulas, and data modeling.
  • Strong Power BI skills with experience developing maintenance or reliability dashboards.


Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline, CMRP certification, Lean/Six Sigma training, and experience within food, beverage, consumer products, process manufacturing, or another highly automated manufacturing environment.
