Position Summary

The Data Engineer – Power BI is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining scalable data pipelines and data models that support business intelligence and analytics initiatives. This role partners closely with business stakeholders, analysts, and Power BI developers to deliver high-quality, trusted datasets and optimized reporting solutions.

The ideal candidate combines strong data engineering expertise with deep knowledge of Power BI architecture, ensuring robust, performant, and secure data solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Data Engineering & Pipeline Development

  • Design, build, and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines to ingest, clean, and transform data from various sources (SQL Server, cloud platforms, APIs, flat files, etc.).
  • Develop and manage data integration workflows using tools such as Azure Data Factory, SSIS, or similar.
  • Ensure data quality, integrity, and reliability across all pipelines.
  • Enforce data governance standards, including data lineage, cataloging, and documentation.

Data Modeling & Power BI Enablement

  • Design and implement optimized data models (star schema, snowflake) tailored for Power BI reporting.
  • Create reusable semantic models and datasets for enterprise reporting.
  • Optimize Power BI datasets for performance, scalability, and usability.
  • Work closely with Power BI developers to align models with reporting requirements.

Cloud & Platform Management

  • Develop and maintain data solutions in cloud environments (e.g., Azure Synapse, Azure SQL, Data Lake).
  • Implement best practices for data storage, processing, and orchestration.
  • Support deployment and lifecycle management (CI/CD) for data pipelines and Power BI artifacts.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Collaborate closely with stakeholders to define modeling requirements and deliver value-driven solutions.
  • Communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences, influencing strategic and tactical decisions.
  • Translate business needs into scalable technical solutions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in data engineering or BI development
  • Proven experience developing solutions with Microsoft Power BI
  • Strong knowledge of DAX, Power Query, and data modeling in Microsoft Environment
  • Active Secret Clearence

Preferred Characteristics

  • SQL skills (query optimization, stored procedures, data modeling)
  • Experience with Microsoft Power Platform (Dataverse, Power Apps, Power Automate, etc.)_
  • Experience with cloud data platforms (Azure, AWS, or equivalent)
  • Experience supporting executive-level reporting and decision support
  • Microsoft certifications
    • Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate (PL‑300)
    • Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate (DP‑203)
    • Microsoft Certified: Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate
    • Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert
    • Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Fundamentals (DP‑900)
