Job description

Assistant Barn Manager

As the assistant barn manager, you will supervise and coordinate the care and wellbeing of SCAD equestrian horses alongside the head barn manager. Care includes but is not limited to daily health checks, feeding, turnout, grooming, haying, watering, treating minor injuries, assisting in emergencies alongside the staff veterinarian, and administering medications and supplements.

In this role, you will also care for the overall appearance of the equestrian center through general farm duties, such as sweeping, checking fences, and any additional duties as assigned. Additional responsibilities include periodic supervision of the groom staff in absence of the barn manger, and as otherwise needed. As you assist the barn manager in day-to-day barn operations, you will help to interview, hire, and train staff; assign and direct work; appraise performance; reward and discipline employees; address complaints; and resolve problems.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in equine science or related field
  • Proven ability, experience, and sound understanding of equine care

Preferred qualifications:

  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) highly desired
  • Experience driving a horse trailer

Certificates, licenses, and registrations:

  • Valid driver's license

Travel required: Less than 10%

Work hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
