As a Postpartum Tech, your typical day includes assisting nurses and physicians with newborn and maternal care, such as checking vital signs, helping with feeding or bathing, and preparing patient rooms. You may also support patient mobility, restock medical supplies, perform basic clerical tasks, and ensure cleanliness. Collaboration with nurses, lactation consultants, and other maternity staff is common to provide comprehensive care. This hands-on role is patient-focused and requires a high level of reliability and compassion throughout each shift.
To thrive as a Postpartum Tech, you need knowledge of maternal and newborn care, basic clinical skills, CPR certification, and often a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with electronic health records (EHRs), vital sign monitoring equipment, and hospital sanitation protocols is usually expected. Compassion, attention to detail, and strong teamwork skills set exceptional candidates apart. These capabilities are vital for supporting new mothers, ensuring newborn safety, and keeping hospital operations smooth and responsive.
