Job description

Overview
Tufts University Counseling and Mental Health Service (CMHS) is a division of Tufts Department of Health and Wellness, which includes Tufts health service and Tufts health promotion. The department contributes to the educational mission of the university through a variety of activities devoted to prevention, intervention, and consultation. Serving a diverse student body of approximately 6000 undergraduate and graduate students, CMHS is committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment which is inclusive and culturally informed. We are a multicultural team with an ongoing focus on deepening our understanding of the intersectional identities of all members of our community. We bring energy and a collaborative approach to the provision of brief counseling and psychiatric services. In addition, we are active on campus doing training, outreach and liaison work, as well as consulting to the Tufts community of students, parents, faculty, and staff regarding students of concern. We also provide crisis intervention and emergency on-call services to the campus community in the event of a mental health crisis.
What You'll Do
The Staff Clinician provides a full range of psychological services to the Tufts University community, working with diverse populations including, but not limited to African American and other students of color, LGBTQ+ students, as well as students of different ethnicities, immigration histories, and intersecting identities. Provides clinical services including assessment, individual, couples, and group counseling, crisis intervention, as well as liaison/outreach activities, and community consultation. Participates in 24-hour emergency on-call rotations, involving telephone and/or face-to-face after-hours evaluations when necessary. Participates and presents in in-service trainings; may participate in supervision of postgraduate trainees.
  • Provides full range of psychological services to students, including group treatment, individual assessment and treatment, referral, crisis management, and consultation to parents and members of the Tufts community. Participates in mandated assessments related to medical leave, re-entry and medical/mental health accommodations.
  • Administrative responsibilities including utilization of electronic medical record systems for scheduling and documentation; completion and maintenance of clinical documentation in accordance with CMHS policies and procedures and in accordance with all relevant ethical and legal standards; participation in team meetings, staff meetings, and other meetings as required; awareness of and utilization of legal and ethical principles, best practices, and current developments in the field.
  • Participates in community outreach/liaison and training activities and programs. Participates in relevant meetings on campus where mental health is an issue. Participates in Orientation activities for incoming students.
  • Provides emergency psychological services to Tufts community, including direct assessment and crisis management, assessing students for suicidality and harm to others, as well as other safety concerns and hospitalization when indicated. In emergencies, coordinates with other campus services including police, TUHS staff, Residential Life and Learning, Deans, and other members of the Tufts community, as well as parents.

What We're Looking For
Basic Requirements:
Knowledge and experience typically acquired by:
  • Doctorate in Psychology, LICSW, current LICSW in Massachusetts, or licensed/license-eligible Massachusetts Psychologist Provider required
  • Massachusetts Psychologist Provider; clinical experience involving brief therapy with a college student/young adult population; strong generalist experience working with a variety of issues common in college populations including stress and anxiety management, eating and body image issues, sexual and other forms of trauma, substance abuse, non-suicidal self-injury, suicidality, depression and mood disorders, ADHD, ASD, etc.
  • Demonstrated training and experience working with diverse populations including, but not limited to African American and other students of color, LGBQ+ students, as well as students of different ethnicities and immigration histories
  • Demonstrated cultural competency
  • Ability to participate in after-hours on-call rotation and other after-hours campus activities

Special Work Schedule Requirements:
This is a hybrid position expected to be on campus at least 3 days per week.
Pay Range
Minimum $72,500.00, Midpoint $90,700.00, Maximum $108,900.00
Salary is based on related experience, expertise, and internal equity; generally, new hires can expect pay between the minimum and midpoint of the range.
