Job description


Idaho National Laboratory is seeking Postdoctoral Research Associate candidates for the Energy Storage Research and Analysis Department. As a postdoctoral researcher you will actively work with a dedicated team focused on accelerating advanced battery development and validation using a combination of experimental, modeling and machine learning methodologies. You will have distinct opportunities for growth and the ability to expand on your existing skillsets.
Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our Idaho Falls facility with every other Friday off.
Your role as a key team member will be focused on experimental investigation of advanced Li and Li-ion battery materials and other advanced battery chemistries. In this role you will prepare and modify materials and then electrochemically, physically and chemically characterize the materials. As an effort focused on the core material science of advanced battery materials it is expected that you have prior experience with Li or Li-ion battery materials, experience in surface characterization and preferably experience in materials synthesis. Experience using Matlab, Python or other similar software is highly desired.
Knowledge of and experience using advanced data analysis techniques including ML/AL is a plus. The ability to independently complete tasks aligned with your core expertise and provide timely updates to the project lead and other team members is required. Clear communication and the dissemination of research results in the form of peer reviewed publications and presentations at national and international scientific meetings is expected for this position. Offer and renewal is contingent on funding.
Required:
  • PhD requirements in chemistry, materials science, mechanical, chemical, electrical engineering, or related disciplines must be completed by commencement of appointment and within the previous 5 years.
  • Demonstrated oral and published written communication skills (in English).
  • Experience in characterization of battery materials or materials synthesis

Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this classification, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, and work in an office and laboratory environment. The job requires hand/finger dexterity to keyboard or type, handle materials, manipulate tools, and reach with hands and arms. The job requires operation of job-related equipment and driving a vehicle. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Sufficient visual acuity and hearing capacity to perform the essential functions and interact with people is required. Position requires the ability to smell. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Job Information:
  • The pay for this position is $105,144.00 Annually. At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
