Position Summary
Manage and oversee Donor Services associates in the overall procurement of blood products from donors to support production requirements, recruitment of donors for automated blood collection as applicable and the safe transport of associates and equipment to and from scheduled work locations. Assist in the management of recruitment and production staff when applicable. Maintain, motivate, encourage and develop staff to attain their full potential through positive reinforcement and corrective action as necessary. Assist Director in developing and directing Versiti's strategic blood collection plans to achieve annual red cell and apheresis collection goals within budget guidelines. Accountable for all management functions including budget development, policy and procedure development/review, annual performance reviews, competencies and staffing. Serve as a Versiti representative demonstrating proficiency, professionalism and excellent interpersonal skills with the public.

The target salary is based on internal averages. Versiti sets salary ranges aligned to local markets in which the job is performed. Compensation decisions take into account internal salary averages and differentiation based on education, experience, skills, and performance. Responsibilities
  • Manages staff and operations to ensure achievement of goals, strategic initiatives and regulatory compliance.
  • Conducts the interviewing and hiring of applicants.
  • Conducts coaching/counseling sessions regarding clarification of policy, problem resolution, and corrective action.
  • Motivates and mentors staff to achieve, and strive to exceed, the requirements of their position.
  • Conducts observations/evaluations of staff for documentation of performance and to ensure compliance with regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Participates in project development and execution as required.
  • Coordinates the performance appraisal program for the department to include assisting supervisors in the performance appraisals for which they are responsible.
  • Prepares and administers performance appraisals for staff reporting to manager.
  • Oversees functions related to special donations and quality control requirements.
  • Works with Education, Scheduling and other departments as needed to schedule training for new associates, promote growth and development of current staff, and correct any identifiable performance problems.
  • Compiles data to prepare/assist in planning annual budget as requested.
  • Monitors monthly expense reports and controls costs with the goal of maintaining expenses within budgeted guidelines.
  • Maintains physical facility as applicable.
  • Gathers and distributes information by conducting and attending meetings, in-services or workshops on a required basis.
  • Investigates and records/reviews results from Donor Incident/Donor Reaction Forms received from the collection sites and mobiles, as applicable.
  • Investigates and addresses internal and external customer feedback appropriately and effectively in a timely manner.
  • Conducts root cause analysis, designs/implements process improvements, and monitors effectiveness of error management program.
  • Addresses questions regarding donor criteria, care and eligibility for donors as appropriate.
  • Collaborates with donor recruitment and marketing staff to maintain a high profile of Versiti in the community.
  • Collaborates with Plant Services and other departments as needed to ensure compliance with regulations for equipment/facilities, and maintain consistency through the collection department.
  • Performs other duties as required, which relate to the blood collection functions.
  • Performs waived tests as described by the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment of 1988, when applicable.
  • Reviews competencies, as applicable.
  • Maintains knowledge of and observes all regulatory requirements and standards, including FDA current Good Manufacturing Practices and Good Tissues Practices as applicable.
  • Follows Universal Precautions and protective measures required by Versiti and outside regulatory agencies. Incumbent may be exposed to blood or body fluids or be in areas which contain these items.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties in this job classification
  • Understands and performs in accordance with all applicable regulatory and compliance requirements
  • Complies with all standard operating policies and procedures

Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in related field required
  • Master's Degree preferred

Experience
  • 1-3 years management experience in blood banking required
  • 1-3 years supervisory experience in a clinical setting. required
  • Apheresis experience preferred for those managing sites that perform such functions. preferred
