Postdoc in Avian Comparative Genomics at the University of New Orleans

The Claramunt lab at The University of New Orleans is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to work onthe project "Genomic drivers of climate adaptability and evolutionary diversification in a radiation of Neotropical passerine birds," funded by the Louisiana Board of Regents. The focus of the position is thegeneration and analysis of high-quality genomes for the family Furnariidae, includinggenome assembly, annotation, and comparative analyses across lineages.

Responsibilities:

  • Assemble and curate genomes fromshort- and long-read data (e.g., PacBio HiFi)

  • Develop and implementassembly and annotation pipelines

  • Conductcomparative genomic analysesin a phylogenetic framework

  • Contribute to manuscripts and collaborative projects

  • (Optional) develop independent projects aligned with lab interests

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in genomics, bioinformatics, evolutionary biology, or related field

  • Experience withgenome assembly and/or large genomic datasets

  • Strong computational skills (Unix/Linux, scripting in R/Python)

  • Publication record in peer-reviewed journals
