SUMMARY

The POS Engineer II is responsible for the design, configuration, testing, implementation, support, and ongoing performance of Potbelly's retail Point of Sale ecosystem across all restaurant locations. This role supports critical restaurant technology platforms including POS terminals, payment devices, self-service ordering solutions, online ordering integrations, and related restaurant technology systems.

The POS Engineer II is accountable for ensuring the stability, performance, and efficiency of restaurant technology solutions while enabling seamless integration between POS platforms and connected systems. This position will lead troubleshooting efforts, support software configuration and menu management, develop operational processes and documentation, conduct extensive lab testing, and partner with vendors and internal stakeholders to drive technology initiatives forward.

This position is based in the Atlanta market and operates in a hybrid work environment, requiring regular onsite work for solution validation, hardware testing, and lab-based activities.


RESPONSIBILITIES

POS Systems Administration & Support

  • Configure, maintain, and support restaurant technology platforms, including POS systems, payment devices, self-ordering technologies, and integrated restaurant applications.
  • Perform menu management, configuration updates, and deployment activities across POS and digital ordering platforms.
  • Support and troubleshoot restaurant technology issues, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
  • Coordinate software releases, upgrades, and testing activities to ensure operational readiness.
  • Monitor system performance and proactively identify opportunities for optimization and improvement.


System Integration & Engineering

  • Support integrations between POS systems and third-party platforms including digital ordering, payment processing, loyalty, reporting, and back-office solutions.
  • Assist in evaluating, designing, and implementing enhancements to restaurant technology architecture.
  • Collaborate with vendors and internal teams to resolve integration issues and improve system functionality.
  • Participate in technical design discussions and provide recommendations for scalable solutions.


Testing, Documentation & Process Development

  • Conduct comprehensive lab testing of hardware, software, payment devices, and integrated restaurant technologies.
  • Develop and maintain system documentation, configuration standards, testing procedures, and operational runbooks.
  • Create repeatable deployment, validation, and support processes to improve consistency and efficiency.
  • Document known issues, resolutions, and best practices for support and operational teams.


Project Execution

  • Support restaurant technology projects from planning through implementation and post-deployment validation.
  • Coordinate with Operations, Training, Marketing, Digital, and external vendors to support technology initiatives.
  • Track project milestones, risks, and dependencies while ensuring successful execution of deliverables.
  • Assist with restaurant technology pilots, new feature rollouts, and platform enhancements.


Vendor & Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Partner with technology vendors and service providers to troubleshoot issues and implement improvements.
  • Serve as a technical resource for restaurant operations and support teams.
  • Communicate system changes, project updates, and technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.


EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND BEHAVIORS

  • Have a minimum of five (5) years of hands-on experience supporting and configuring restaurant POS technologies.
  • Possess strong experience with menu management, configuration, and administration within Aloha POS, Toast POS, and Olo platforms.
  • Demonstrate experience supporting integrated restaurant technology environments, including payment processing and digital ordering systems.
  • Have experience troubleshooting hardware, software, networking, and integration-related issues in a multi-unit restaurant environment.
  • Understand software testing methodologies, deployment processes, and change management practices.
  • Be capable of managing multiple priorities and projects while maintaining attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting enterprise restaurant technology platforms in a QSR or multi-unit restaurant environment.
  • Experience with payment devices, EMV solutions, self-service ordering technologies, and restaurant technology integrations.
  • Familiarity with restaurant networking infrastructure and store-level technology environments.
  • Experience participating in technology rollouts, pilots, or large-scale POS deployments.
  • Exposure to vendor management and cross-functional project collaboration.
  • Knowledge of reporting, analytics, or back-office restaurant systems.


ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL FUNCTIONS

  • Must be able to work in a hybrid environment, including extended periods of onsite lab testing and system validation activities.
  • Must frequently reach, feel, bend, stoop, carry, finely manipulate and key in data.
  • Must be able to install, test, and troubleshoot technology hardware and peripherals.
  • Must be able to communicate extensively through telephone, email, video conferencing, and in-person interactions.
  • Must be able to engage in problem-solving activities requiring attention to detail and technical analysis.
  • Must occasionally lift and transport technology equipment required for testing and deployment activities.
