Job description
As a Fire Suppressions Systems Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance Technician, you will perform operating and maintenance duties in support of the fire protection systems throughout the Airport facilities and other Port of Seattle properties.
- You will operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair wet, dry, and deluge, systems and other tasks related to the fire protection systems throughout Port of Seattle facilities.
- You will be responsible for preventative and corrective work to ensure proper equipment operation and reliability.
- You will inspect and tests sprinkler systems in compliance with Port of Seattle policy, industry standards, state, and federal law.
- You will provide inspection, testing, and maintenance for wet, dry, pre-action, deluge fire sprinkler systems, as well as fire pumps per the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 25 standards.
- You will report deficiencies to Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) in a timely and effective manner to prevent additional repairs.
- You will perform on-call duties as outlined and as required by contract obligations and management.
- You will complete all paperwork directly related to inspections, deficiencies, and repairs in a timely manner.
- Experienced - You have five (5) years of journey level fire suppressions systems experience in an industrial environment.
- Licenses/Certifications - You possess a current NICET II license or a ASSE 15101 certification or higher and a State of Washington Fire/Sprinkler Inspector I&T Certification.
- Desired - We hope you possess a City of Seattle, AS-1, (automatic sprinklers), SC-1 (smoke control), and FA-1 (fire alarm testing in any building).

- Driver's License - You are required to possess a valid Washington State Driver's License in order to travel to local project sites.
- Work Schedule - You may be required to work any and all assigned shifts, including weekends and holidays. Your normal work schedule will be Monday - Thursday, 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., 40 hours per week. You may be required to work during emergencies, as needed.
- Work Environment - You will generally work indoors and outdoors in all types of weather conditions. You may be exposed to areas of high noise, various hazardous materials, work at heights and/or in confined spaces. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is provided.
- Washington State Residency Requirement - Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle.
- Overtime Eligible - You are eligible for overtime pay in this role as per the L302 Collective Bargaining Agreement.
- Safety Requirements - You will be required to comply with all work rules, safety rules, and PPE requirements.
- Security Requirements - As the successful candidate, you must pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) background check, as well as a criminal history background check with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Your employment will be contingent upon obtaining a Port of Seattle ID badge upon clearance. You will also be required to obtain a U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) Customs Seal within 30 days of hire. In this role, you will be required to access Port of Seattle Police Department equipment, office locations, systems and/or vehicles. In compliance with Federal and State laws as the successful candidate, you will be required to pass a Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) criminal history background check.
- Union Representation - This position is represented by the International Union of Operating Engineers union, Local 302.
- Benefits/Pay - $67.75/hour = $140,920/yr with NICET II or higher, Swing 10%, Graveyard 15%, Annual License 100% Reimbursement, 1.5x OT for 11th hour worked, 2.0x DT for 12th hour worked, 2.0x DT over 55 hours/week worked, 13 Paid Holidays (11 designated, 2 personal, 10 hours each), 2.0x time worked on holidays, Vacation 80 hours/year first 3 years, 120 hours for years 3-10, 160 hours for years 11-15, 200 hours for years over 15, minimum 80 hours/yr Sick leave, 50 hours/yr LWOP allowed, paid Jury Duty, paid Bereavement 30-50 hours per occurrence, 100% paid Medical, 16.5% gross compensation employer paid to Pension, $170/yr Safety Shoe Stipend, Training opportunities available.
