POSITION SUMMARY:

The Port Engineer is the lead engineer of the local Moran fleet reporting directly to the General Manager. This position includes accepting a high level of accountability and displaying strong initiative for the operation and maintenance of the floating and support assets of the division, including providing direct support to the tug Captains & Engineers. Effective communication, coordination and personnel interface are key to the success of this position. The Port Engineer is required to be fully conversant with, and continually set a good example of, safe working practices per Moran's Mission, Vision and Values including compliance with the Safety Management System (SMS). Hours of work are the division's business hours Monday through Friday, with the incumbent expected to be available, when required, during off-hours, weekends, and holidays. Some travel is required.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, but are not limited, to:

Manage Local Engineering Activities

  • Actively ensures safety of personnel and equipment is a priority before, during and after all work.
  • Reviews daily engineering reports from vessels, as applicable.
  • Implements and monitors the Preventive Maintenance Plan.
  • Manages and performs vessel repairs.
  • Recommends capital improvement projects to the General Manager.
  • Ensures compliance of regulatory and ABS class obligations.
  • Purchases engine department spares and consumables.
  • Assists in developing marine engineers with development in training and qualifications including approval of their knowledge.
  • Seeks out and implements cost-saving measures, where appropriate.
  • As the subject matter expert, maintains an intimate knowledge of the vessels systems and leads troubleshooting efforts as needed.
  • Maintains corporate databases as they apply to the Engineering Department.
  • Receives PIC training.
  • Receives Shipyard Competent Person training, including use of QRAE gas detection equipment.

Interface with Regional and Corporate Engineering

  • Seeks guidance and approval relating to repairs, modifications, or equipment overhauls.
  • Assists with specifications and information prior to a vessel dry docking.
  • Shares information relevant to the engineering fitness of each assigned vessel.

Maintain Shoreside Engineering Facilities and Support Equipment

  • Ensures preventative maintenance is performed to shoreside equipment. Also ensures regulatory compliance as applicable.
  • Ensures facilities are kept safe from hazards including fire or other.
  • Maintains and tracks inventory as required.
  • Ensures readiness of support equipment (i.e., forklift, crane, etc.as applicable).

Manage Local Vendor Relationships

  • Selects approved vendors utilizing a vetting criterion.
  • Ensures a safe working environment including egress and ingress to vessel.
  • Coordinates and schedules vendors with operations.
  • Ensures Quality Control and SMS conformance relating to vendor behavior and performance.
  • Reviews and approves vendor invoicing.

Manage Direct Reports

  • Manage Assistant Port Engineer or others, as appropriate.
    • Ensures Assistant Port Engineer has identified goals to satisfactorily meet job requirements.
    • Provides guidance and career development opportunities for Assistant Port Engineer.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Advanced Marine Engineering expertise evidenced by at least a BS degree in Marine Engineering or equivalent experience, five or more years of relevant engineering experience in a licensed capacity, and past or current USCG engineering license.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain TWIC documentation (including meeting the physical requirements of the USCG 719K physical exam).
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Programs.
  • Demonstrated good judgment, responsibility, work flexibility, and a high level of initiative and organization.
  • Ability to travel when required, including air travel.

Physical Demands of this Position Include the Ability To:

  • Sit or stand for long periods of time.
  • Frequently reach, bend, stoop, and crawl.
  • Frequent walking and navigating stairs, ladders, and uneven surfaces.
  • Occasional tool use to include wide range of combined physical motions.
  • Occasionally lift 75 lbs.
  • Speak, hear, and see (color vision required).

PAY TRANSPARENCY:

Moran Towing Corporation offers generous benefits, opportunities for professional growth, and competitive salaries based on geographic location. Our target pay range for the Port Engineerposition is $103,000.00-$114,000.00per year. This pay range represents Moran's commitment to pay transparency and is a reasonable estimate of possible compensation for this role at the time of posting. The final salary for this role will be determined based on careful consideration of a variety of factors, such as the candidate's exact location, experience, and expertise related to the qualifications.
