Job description

Job Summary:
The Port Coordinator will develop and maintain strong business relationships with port owners and managers to negotiate lower rates and bulk shipping costs and arrange pick up and arrival times with shippers, port staff, and carriers. Compensation range is $17-$21/hr depending on experience.
Essential Functions and Duties:
  • Provide quotes to shipper, clear customs, and arrange for delivery
  • Bill all international and Alaska containers
  • Helps move DOS shippers during the busy season
  • Communicate effectively with service centers regarding rates and delivery arrivals at port
  • Coordinate pick up from port and transfer to warehouse for processing
  • Work with port staff to coordinate arrivals of international moves and schedule pick up times for carriers
  • Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor
  • Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers
  • Strong clerical skills
  • Strong account management skills
  • Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office - Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices
  • Strong background in moving logistics and international shipping and transport

Required Education and Experience:
  • Preferred: Bachelor's in Business Administration or Transportation
  • Preferred: Master's in Business Administration
  • Required: Previous experience in international transportation logistics
