M&J is seeking Materials Inspectors to perform field sampling and testing of construction materials for Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) projects. 

Responsibilities

Perform field sampling and testing of construction materials including soils, aggregates, asphalt, and concrete. Conduct density testing, compaction testing, and materials sampling in accordance with the VDOT Materials Manual of Instructions (MOI). Document materials testing results and maintain testing records. Coordinate materials testing with project inspection staff and contractor personnel. Verify materials incorporated into the project meet VDOT specifications and material acceptance requirements. Maintain calibration and operation of testing equipment including nuclear density gauges. Assist with documentation of test results for project records and pay estimate verification.

Qualifications

Required

  • Minimum 3-7 years of experience in materials inspection or materials testing. ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician - Grade I certification. Nuclear Density Gauge Safety Certification.

Preferred

  • NICET Level II or III certification in Construction Materials Testing. VDOT Soils and Aggregate Compaction Certification. VDOT Asphalt Field Level I Certification. OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety Training.
