Job Summary:
This posting is for a pooled position. Application submissions for "[POOL]" positions are accepted on an ongoing basis to ensure a continuous and ready pool of qualified candidates for immediate review when the need arises. If/when a position becomes available, the College will review applications from this pool, and interview candidates whose qualifications best match the specific opening.
Applicants must reapply to the pool annually to maintain their active status in the pool.
Teaches core Sociology classes. Must also hold office hours.
Essential Duties:
1. Teach General Sociology courses.
2. Act as a team member of the Social Science Department and Arts & Communication Division.
3. Communicate the objectives of each course taught, grade according to those objectives, and report student progress toward those goals.
4. Work effectively with students and staff of various cultural and socioeconomic
backgrounds and ages and successfully interact with supervisors, colleagues, and staff as part of an educational team.
5. Establish and maintain opportunities for reasonable out-of-class contact with
students.
6. Prepare course descriptions, course outlines, and other material related to
courses taught.
7. Establish and maintain a class roll, and teach in conformance with approved course outlines.
8. Participate in Student Appraisal of Classroom Learning.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Work is performed in an office or classroom setting with minimal exposure to safety or health hazards.
Education and Experience

  • Masters degree in Sociology or minimum of 27 graduate quarter hours in Sociology.
  • Teaching experience, preferably at the community college.

Salary and Compensation Information:
Courses are paid on a per-credit basis. New Part-time Faculty begin at Step 1 of the payscale, with steps being "rolled" once per term, if eligible.

    • Table 1 illustrates the cost per credit for each step on the pay scale. Instructors new to the College typically start at the rate listed in column 1.
    • Table 3 illustrates the compensation per hour for meetings, training, advising, curriculum development, or other related work.
