Job Description:
Responsible for operating, staffing, maintaining, and oversight for Hixon Natatorium and the outdoor pool.
JOB DUTIES
  • Directs the daily operation of two aquatics facilities: Hixon Natatorium and outdoor pool. Supervises and participates in daily pool maintenance for both pools. Delivers timely and effective customer service to address patron concerns and complaints with aquatics facilities, including locker rooms, and/or events.

  • Hires, trains, schedules, and evaluates student staff lifeguards. Teaches Aquatic/CPR/AED/First Aid classes for lifeguard staff; PE/Rec Sports/Athletics student staff, and athletic department staff including coaches. Coordinates event management for intercollegiate swim/dive meets (<5 meets a year). Performs as substitute lifeguard when necessary for P.E. classes, intercollegiate athletics practices, general recreation open swim, and other aquatic special events.
  • Annually reviews and revises the lifeguard and aquatics operations manuals.
  • Prepares and administers annual aquatics budget for aquatics supplies/expenses, including pool chemicals and lifeguard wages. Purchases aquatics supplies from local, regional, and national vendors as necessary. Prepares invoices for lifeguard expenses for off campus user groups as necessary.
  • Directs, coordinates, and evaluates employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with all policies and applicable laws. Interviews, hires and trains employees; plans, assigns, and directs work; creates work schedules and conducts performance appraisals, counsels, and disciplines employees; addresses complaints and resolves problems.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES
  • Abides by NCAA Division III rules and regulations.
  • Cooperates and collaborates with other employees in the spirit of teamwork and collegiality and interacts with confidence, patience and integrity to provide professional leadership during emergencies.
  • Complies with all Trinity University policies and guidelines.
  • Performs other duties as required.

EDUCATION
Required:
  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university.

Preferred:
  • Master's degree or equivalent from four-year college or university.

EXPERIENCE
Required:
  • 6 months to 12 months.
  • Background in pool management and lifeguard supervision.
  • Experience working with pool mechanical, filtration, and chemical control systems.
  • Experience working for a collegiate, municipal athletic or recreation department.
  • Experience managing various aquatic events and technical knowledge of both Hy-Tek Meet Manager and Colorado Timing Systems products.
  • Management experience working in aquatics, recreation, athletics, physical education or related fields.

Preferred:
  • 1 year to 3 years.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Required:
  • Knowledge of swim, dive, and other aquatic events.
  • Ability to multi-task while possessing a professional demeanor and attitude.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Quality customer service skills.
  • Ability to operate computers and software.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
Required:
  • American Red Cross (or equivalent), Lifeguarding, first aid, and CPR/AED certification.
  • CPR for Professional Rescuers.
  • American Red Cross (or equivalent), Lifeguard Instructor certification, must be obtained within 30 days of employment.
  • Preferred:
  • American Red Cross Instructor Training certification in CPR/AED/FA.
  • Certified Pool Operator (CPO) from the National Spa and Pool Foundation.
  • Certified Pool Operator (CPO).

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
  • All jobs require a current Criminal Background Check (CBC).
  • Comply with and implement all local, state, national, and university safety regulations.
