Job description

Behind every great swim is a pool operator who makes it possible.
Position: Pool Operator Salary: $19.00 hour
A YMCA Pool Operator keeps the good times flowing by maintaining crystal-clear water, powering the pool behind the scenes, and creating a safe, sparkling environment where everyone can dive in and enjoy.
What You'll Do:
  • Ensures all pool operations, staff supervision, and required documentation comply with county and state regulations.
  • Monitor and maintain water chemistry to keep the pool clean, balanced, and safe for all users
  • Operate, inspect, and troubleshoot pool systems and equipment to ensure everything runs smoothly
  • Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of the pool, deck, and surrounding areas
  • Respond quickly to issues and support a safe, enjoyable experience for members and guests

What We're Looking For:
  • Must be 17 years of age
  • Must have at least 500 hours of experience
  • Must meet essential functions of Lifeguarding
  • Current lifeguard certification
  • CPR and First Aid (can be obtained before starting)
  • Valid pool operator's license (certification through American Pool & Spa or a comparable certification recognized by Loudoun County)

Required Aquatics Safety Skills:
  • Must have the physical ability to meet all prerequisites for YMCA lifeguard
  • Must be able to lift and move around objects of 60 pounds or more
  • Swim 500 yards
  • Tread water for two minutes. (Legs only)
  • Retrieve training victim from bottom deep end
  • Active victim rescue with tube
  • Passive victim rescue with tube
  • Backboard victim
  • Ability to see and hear participants in distress or asking for assistance
