How much do pool design jobs pay per hour?

As of Jul 1, 2026, the average hourly pay for pool design in Arizona is $17.03, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $14.33 and $18.80 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are some common challenges faced by pool designers during the design and construction phases?

Pool designers often encounter challenges such as working with irregular or limited outdoor spaces, adhering to local building codes and safety regulations, and balancing client preferences with budget constraints. Coordination with contractors, landscapers, and engineers is also crucial to ensure the design is feasible and can be implemented as planned. Additionally, pool designers must stay updated on the latest materials and technologies to create safe, sustainable, and attractive pools that meet client expectations.

What is the difference between Pool Design vs Pool Construction?

AspectPool DesignPool Construction
Primary FocusCreating the visual and functional plans for a pool, including layout, aesthetics, and featuresBuilding the pool according to the design plans, including excavation, plumbing, and finishing
Required SkillsDesign skills, knowledge of pool systems, creativity, CAD proficiencyConstruction skills, knowledge of materials, plumbing, and safety standards
Work EnvironmentDesign studios, client meetings, on-site inspectionsConstruction sites, outdoor environments, physical labor
CertificationsDesign certifications, landscape architecture or related credentialsConstruction licenses, plumbing and electrical certifications

Pool Design involves planning and visualizing the pool's appearance and functionality, while Pool Construction focuses on physically building the pool based on those plans. Both roles are essential in creating a successful swimming pool project, but they require different skill sets and certifications.

How much do pool builders make per pool?

Pool builders typically earn between $4,000 and $15,000 per pool, depending on the size, complexity, and materials used. Their income can vary based on experience, project scope, and regional demand, with some builders charging a percentage of the total project cost or a fixed fee. Skilled builders with certifications and good project management can increase their earnings per pool.

How to get into pool design?

To pursue a career in pool design, gaining a background in architecture, landscape design, or civil engineering is helpful. Developing skills in CAD software, understanding construction processes, and obtaining relevant certifications can improve job prospects. Entry often involves apprenticeships or internships with design firms or contractors.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Pool Designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Pool Designer, you need expertise in landscape architecture, spatial planning, and construction principles, often supported by a relevant degree or technical training. Familiarity with design software like AutoCAD, 3D modeling tools, and knowledge of local building codes are typically required. Creativity, attention to detail, and strong client communication skills help deliver custom, functional, and aesthetically pleasing pool projects. These skills are crucial to ensure safe, appealing, and regulation-compliant pool designs that meet client expectations.

What is the highest paying career in design?

In design fields, roles such as industrial designers, user experience (UX) directors, and creative directors tend to have the highest salaries. Senior positions often require extensive experience, advanced skills, and leadership responsibilities, which contribute to higher compensation.

Do you need a degree to design pools?

Pool designers typically do not need a formal degree, but knowledge of architecture, engineering, or landscape design can be beneficial. Many professionals learn through technical training, certifications, or on-the-job experience. Skills in CAD software and understanding of safety codes are also important in this field.

What does a pool designer do?

A pool designer specializes in creating customized swimming pool plans that fit the client's needs, preferences, and the available space. They consider aesthetic elements, safety features, and technical requirements, such as plumbing and filtration systems. Pool designers often work closely with architects, landscapers, and builders to ensure the design is feasible and blends seamlessly with the surrounding environment. Their responsibilities may also include selecting materials, preparing 3D renderings, and guiding clients through the design and construction process.

Job description

HTML/CSS - Senior Developers - AI Training - USAAbout Prolific

Prolific is not just another player in the AI space โ€“ we are building the biggest pool of quality human data in the world.

Over 35,000 AI developers, researchers, and organizations use Prolific to gather data from paid study participants with a wide variety of experiences, knowledge, and skills.

The role

We're looking for Senior HTML/CSS Developers to join our Expert Network to help train and evaluate cutting-edge AI models. If you have a background in Software Engineering or Frontend Development, we'll send you a quick 10- to 15-minute test to assess your skills. If successful, you'll be invited to join Prolific as a participant, where you'll get paid to help AI understand and produce high-quality frontend code and design implementation.

Researchers looking for your skills tend to pay up to $40/hr, depending on skills and experience. You must be prepared to complete paid tasks that require one hour of uninterrupted work, though many are shorter.

What you'll bring
  • Educational Background: a BSc or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Web Development, or a closely related technical field.
  • Professional Experience: real-world experience as a Senior Frontend Developer or UI Engineer specialising in HTML/CSS.
  • Coding Proficiency: ability to independently build complex, responsive layouts and components without relying on frameworks or libraries.
  • Deep Domain Knowledge: expert understanding of the CSS cascade, specificity, the box model, Flexbox, CSS Grid, accessibility standards (WCAG), and cross-browser compatibility.
  • Code Quality: a high standard for clean, semantic markup and maintainable CSS, including adherence to BEM methodology, design tokens, and modern CSS standards.
What you'll be doing in the role
  • Evaluate Code Accuracy: review AI-generated HTML/CSS for functional correctness, semantic structure, and adherence to best practices.
  • Validate Logic & Reasoning: audit the step-by-step explanations provided by AI for layout solutions and styling approaches to ensure they are technically sound.
  • Conduct Execution Testing: render model-generated markup and stylesheets in appropriate environments to verify visual output and cross-browser behaviour.
  • Annotate Model Performance: identify areas where a model produces inaccessible markup, inefficient selectors, deprecated attributes, or hallucinated CSS properties.
  • Refine Technical Logic: provide structured feedback on how models reason through responsive design, component architecture, or design system implementation.
Key Technologies
  • Core Languages: expert mastery of HTML5 and CSS3/4, including custom properties, animations, and modern layout systems.
  • Frameworks & Methodologies: extensive experience with Tailwind CSS, SASS/SCSS, or CSS Modules, and familiarity with component-driven design systems.
  • Testing & Tools: proficiency with browser DevTools, accessibility auditing tools (e.g., axe, Lighthouse), and cross-browser testing platforms.
Why Prolific is a great platform to join as a Participant

Joining our platform as a Prolific participant will give you the chance to influence the AI models of the future using professional legal expertise. Once you pass our assessment, you can join Prolific in just 15 minutes, and start enjoying competitive pay rates, flexible hours, and the ability to work from home.

We've built a unique platform that connects researchers and companies with a global pool of participants, enabling the collection of high-quality, ethically sourced human behavioural data and feedback. This data is the cornerstone of developing more accurate, nuanced, and aligned AI systems.

We believe that the next leap in AI capabilities won't come solely from scaling existing models, but from integrating diverse human perspectives and behaviours into AI development. By providing this crucial human data infrastructure, Prolific is positioning itself at the forefront of the next wave of AI innovation โ€“ one that reflects the breadth and the best of humanity.
