What is a pool cleaning service?

Pool cleaning services are professional companies or individuals who maintain and clean swimming pools to keep them safe, hygienic, and functioning properly. Their tasks typically include removing debris, balancing pool chemicals, brushing walls and tiles, vacuuming, checking and cleaning filters, and inspecting pool equipment. Regular pool cleaning helps prevent algae growth, equipment damage, and health issues, ensuring your pool remains in optimal condition.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a pool cleaning service professional?

To thrive as a Pool Cleaning Service professional, you need a solid understanding of pool chemistry, water filtration systems, and basic pool maintenance techniques, often accompanied by on-the-job training or relevant certifications. Familiarity with pool cleaning tools, water testing kits, and sometimes scheduling or invoicing software is important for efficient service delivery. Strong attention to detail, reliability, and good customer service skills help build trust and satisfaction with clients. These skills ensure pools are safe, clean, and well-maintained, which is vital for customer health and business reputation.

What are some common challenges faced by pool cleaning service technicians, and how can they be addressed?

Pool cleaning service technicians often encounter challenges such as managing fluctuating weather conditions, dealing with complex pool equipment, and maintaining pools with heavy usage. Adapting to weather changes requires flexibility in scheduling and using appropriate protective gear. Technicians should stay updated on equipment maintenance and troubleshooting by participating in regular training. Clear communication with clients and the service team also helps ensure that issues are addressed promptly and efficiently.

Join Our Team! Experienced Swimming Pool Cleaning Technician
At least 6 months of professional pool service experience required
We're looking for an experienced, dependable Pool Cleaning Technician who already understands the basics of residential pool maintenance and can quickly transition to managing a route independently.
This is not an entry-level position. We will provide paid training on Pool Scouts procedures, service standards, technology, and routes, but we expect qualified candidates to have enough prior pool experience to be ready to work independently after approximately one week of training.
About the Role
Position: Full-Time Pool Cleaning Technician
Schedule: 32-40 hours/week, Monday-Friday, daytime hours
Location: Start and end each workday in South Austin
Pay: $18-$20/hour + benefits
As a Pool Scouts Technician, you'll:
  • Provide routine cleaning and maintenance for residential swimming pools
  • Test and balance pool water and add appropriate chemicals
  • Identify common pool maintenance and equipment issues
  • Build positive relationships with customers through professional service
  • Drive a company-issued vehicle to service appointments
  • Use a smartphone/tablet to document services and route information
  • Perform minor pool equipment maintenance and repairs as appropriate
  • Work independently and efficiently to complete an assigned daily route
  • Represent Pool Scouts with professionalism and pride

Please Note
You must have reliable transportation to reach our shop in South Austin each workday. Long commutes, particularly from north of mid-downtown Austin, can be challenging, so please consider your commute before applying.
And yes-it gets HOT! This is an outdoor job in Central Texas. You should be comfortable working outside throughout the year, including during the summer heat.
What Makes a Great Pool Scout?
We're looking for someone who:
  • Already has a solid foundation in residential pool cleaning and maintenance
  • Can learn our procedures quickly and be ready to manage a route independently
  • Is dependable and shows up consistently and on time
  • Takes pride in doing the job correctly without constant supervision
  • Communicates clearly with customers and coworkers
  • Notices problems and takes initiative
  • Is comfortable working independently for most of the day
  • Enjoys active, outdoor work
  • Is willing to help the team when needed
  • Provides professional, friendly customer service

Requirements
  • Minimum 6 months of professional swimming pool cleaning/service experience
  • Ability to transition to independent route work after approximately one week of Pool Scouts training
  • At least 18 years old and legally eligible to work in the U.S.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record
  • Reliable transportation to and from our South Austin shop
  • Ability to work outdoors in hot weather for extended periods
  • Ability to lift and carry 50+ pounds
  • Personal smartphone with data for work-related use
  • Comfortable using mobile apps and service-tracking technology
  • Willingness to obtain CPO certification if not already certified

Compensation & Growth
Training - $18/hour
Approximately one week of paid training to learn our procedures, service expectations, technology, and routes.
Independent Technician - $19/hour
Once you demonstrate that you can safely and successfully manage your assigned pool route independently and consistently meet our service standards.
60-Day Performance Raise - $20/hour
After 60 days working independently, technicians who demonstrate reliable attendance, consistent quality of work, productivity, and dependable performance are eligible to increase to $20/hour.
Plus: Benefits package available.
Our goal is straightforward: come to us with pool experience, learn how we do things, demonstrate that you can independently provide great service, and quickly move up in pay
Why Work with Pool Scouts?
  • Monday-Friday daytime schedule
  • No nights or regular weekend routes
  • Company vehicle provided for daily routes
  • All pool equipment and supplies provided
  • Paid training
  • Independent work without someone looking over your shoulder all day
  • Professional and positive work environment
  • Clear and achievable path from $18 to $20/hour
  • Supportive team when you need help
  • Opportunity to expand your pool maintenance and equipment knowledge

We value diversity, equity, and belonging and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. We expect every team member to uphold these values in their daily work and interactions.
How to Apply
Please tell us about your previous pool service experience, including approximately how long you have worked in the industry and the type of pool maintenance work you performed.
We're specifically looking for someone who can get up to speed quickly and is comfortable working independently after a short training period.
Just like you, our time is valuable. If you apply and we contact you for an interview, we ask that you please respond-even if you've decided the position is no longer right for you.
We look forward to meeting you!
Compensation: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
