Job Description

Stepan is seeking a Chemist to join our Polymers R&D team in Northfield, Illinois. This onsite laboratory-based role focuses primarily on rigid foam applications and offers the opportunity to support innovative product and formulation development for rigid spray foam and PIR insulation applications. The Chemist will be responsible for operating and maintaining polyurethane foam processing equipment, developing polyols and formulations, and conducting a variety of laboratory activities including foam formulation, application development at both small and large scale, physical property testing, fire testing, and analytical testing.

Qualifications
  • 1-5 years working in a laboratory environment and practicing safe laboratory procedures.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Good mechanical aptitude with machine operation and problem-solving experience is desired.
  • Some polymer and/or material science experience is desired.
  • Demonstrated, hands-on experience in some common analytical techniques, such as titration, rheometry, TGA, or other wet chemical testing is desired
  • Must have a strong attention to detail, with good organization and documentation skills.
  • Strong communication skills in written, verbal and presentation formats.
  • Must be proficient in all Microsoft Office applications and willing to learn specific database and web applications.
  • Must be able to work in Northfield laboratory.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds
  • Must be comfortable using bandsaw
Education
  • B.S. Degree in Chemistry or related field

Pay Range: $58,000 - $76,000

The salary range for this position is determined by considering a variety of factors such as skills, experience, qualifications, and the location of the position.
