Job description

SUMMARY:

Plans and conducts activities for new product development and for maintaining and improving existing technology.


RESPONSIBILITIES:


Main Strategic Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the planning and execution of work on multiple testing, maintaining and improving projects including supporting new product development at the direction of the VP Technology or Senior Research Scientist.


Specific Day to Day Responsibilities

  • Plans and carries out technical work to support new technology and to improve existing technology
  • Uses appropriate techniques, apparatuses, and procedures to achieve objectives
  • Achieves a thorough understanding of products, testing methods, and raw materials
  • Responsible for managing all Technical Service Requests for testing, maintaining, and improving existing products
  • Troubleshoots existing products, including modifying current prototypes as needed
  • Carries out work to qualify new raw materials and new sources of raw materials
  • Assures product performance during installation and in end-use conditions
  • Maintains organized, accurate and retrievable records of all work
  • Composes written reports in a timely manner to communicate and document the work done
  • Reports and communicates the results of work to Senior Research Scientist and/or department head as often as necessary
  • Designs and carries out experiments in the laboratory, fire-test-furnaces, manufacturing facility, and application equipment (such as paint sprayers), etc.
  • Maintains compliance with ISO 9001 / 2008 requirements for โ€œDesign and Developmentโ€
  • Maintains a suitable laboratory and the accuracy of equipment
  • Maintains a clean and organized work environment
  • Complies with corporate health and safety practices
  • Directly supervise and mentor technicians. Indirectly manage other Technology personnel, as necessary to accomplish project goals.

SCOPE OF POSITION:

Is accountable for contributing to the assessment, development, reformulation, maintenance, and enhancement of existing products through planning, executing, and analysis of experiments with clear and accurate results.


Responsibilities typically occur in the Companyโ€™s R&D facility in Stanhope, NJ, but may occur anywhere in the world. Some travel is required to manufacturing facilities, courses, and testing labs


EXPERIENCE:

Bachelorโ€™s degree in Chemistry or Polymer Science (preferred) or Material Science


KNOWLEDGE:

College-level Organic, Inorganic, Analytical and Physical Chemistry, and ideally, Material/Polymer Science desired


SKILLS:

  • Ability to work within a team environment
  • Establish questions and generates recommendations
  • Inventiveness and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to quickly react to negative or positive research results
  • Aptitude with equipment and machines
  • Be organized and be able to carry out multiple projects simultaneously from start to finish
  • Be able to understand technical issues and evaluate alternate solutions
  • Development and refinement of new test methods and characterization techniques
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and be able to apply mathematical concepts
  • Strong communication skills in verbal, written and presentation form
  • Self-motivated and willing to work โ€œhands-onโ€ in laboratory
  • Strong ownership with the ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to supervise and mentor direct reports
  • Be able to work atypical hours and travel, sometimes internationally


The base salary anticipated is $130,000 - $150,000 per year for this position at the time of this posting. Consistent with applicable law, actual compensation may vary and will be determined by several factors, including but not limited to, the applicantโ€™s skills, qualifications, experience, and other job-related factors. Isolatek International reserves the right to modify this pay range at any time. An employee may also be eligible for annual discretionary incentive compensation based on company and personal performance.
