Job description

Staff Engineer / Lead โ€“ Build Systems (Bazel)ย 

An autonomous vehicle manufacturer in the Bay Area is looking for a Staff or Lead Software Engineer to join their Developer Experience team. The company operates a large polyglot monorepo and is focused on improving the build and test infrastructure that supports their engineering org.

This role is a mix of hands-on technical work and light people management โ€” you'll own their Bazel build system and manage one Bazel engineer.

Compensation & Location:

  • Up to $360,000 base salary + equity
  • Hybrid out of Alameda, CA

Core Responsibilities:

  • Own and evolve a Bazel-based build system within a polyglot monorepo
  • Improve and maintain CI pipelines (CircleCI experience a plus)
  • Set standards for build and test infrastructure across the engineering team
  • Collaborate with developers to improve build performance and reliability
  • Manage and mentor one Bazel engineer
