Job Summary
The Industrial Technology & Packaging Labs Technician reporting to the Area Chair provides comprehensive technical support for the Industrial Technology and Packaging Technology instructional laboratories at the Orfalea College of Business. This position plays a vital role in supporting student learning through hands-on applications of industrial and packaging systems, materials testing, product handling, and related technologies. Working closely with faculty and staff, the technician ensures lab environments are safe, functional, and aligned with curricular needs.
Department Summary
The vision for the Orfalea College of Business (Orfalea) is to be a transformational leader in experiential business education. Orfalea's mission is to educate career-ready future business leaders in a polytechnic learn-by-doing environment and produce research that positively influences business and society.
Key Qualifications
1. Knowledge of materials, equipment, and processes common to industrial technology and packaging disciplines.
2. Working understanding of inventory control and laboratory safety practices.
3. Ability to perform moderately complex technical tasks with minimal supervision.
4. Strong interpersonal skills; ability to communicate effectively with faculty, staff, and students.
5. Demonstrated customer service experience requiring a very high level of diplomacy and professionalism.
6. Ability to use tact and diplomacy to effectively handle a broad range of high level and sensitive interpersonal situations with diverse personalities, and to respond appropriately to conflicts and problems.
Education and Experience
  • Equivalent to three years of experience providing instructional support services for a related unit or discipline, or in producing materials or supplies or repairing equipment in a discipline related to the area to which assigned.
    Or
  • Equivalent to two years of college with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials, supplies, or equipment and in a discipline related to the area may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
    Or
  • Equivalent to four years of college with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials, supplies, or equipment and in a discipline related to the area to which assigned may be substituted for two years of the required experience.

Salary and Benefits
Anticipated Hiring Range: $67,212 to $80,328 per year
Classification Range: $54,140 to $80,328 per year
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Anticipated Hiring Range referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Classification Range may be broader than what the University anticipates paying for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
